Does anyone know if I can use this with an extension cord? Also, are there different modes and what should I set it to if I’ll be gone for a few months?

Sure, if you need to. Just make sure it is a heavy duty cord.

In terms of settings, the only choices on mine are lithium vs. lead; obviously, choose the lithium setting for the F8X.

i bought the same charger yesterday and a automotive power inverter. I also purchased a heavy duty 25ft. extension cord and it worked fine.

The reason I bought a power inverter 12vdc to 115vac is because my M4 is in storage with no electrical outlets. Last time I drove my M was June 2nd and been away on business travel for 3 months and 1 week or 13 weeks. I was curious to see if it would start before charging it and low and behold it fired right up. I went ahead and plugged in the power inverter to the 12v plug inside my Nissan Sentra rental and plugged the extension cord to it and the charger on the other end. Took 1.5hrs to get full charge.
