Self leveling suspension

I have a 2015 X5 and I want to know if this is normal. When I go to my vehicle and unlock the doors. The rear tires seem to automatic make some hiss sound like it's inflating or leveling but I can't see it happen. Is this normal. Or is something wrong? Someone told me it could be leaky bags but if it's leaky bags wouldn't a sensor go off ?

I just bought this and had it checked and passed inspection and everything seems normal. I just want to make sure that every morning I hear the hiss sound from the rear tire like it's leveling... is that normal ? I think it's only one tire too the rear left I didn't check the other side ...

Probably the fuel pump not the air pump. Take a video.

Normal, I purchased my 17 new equipped with rear air suspension. I have the same hiss sound that comes on once I unlock the doors. I believe I asked the same question here on the forum.

Yes your right! I called Bmw and they said that was normal too because I had a 3rd row and it will adjust daily. Thanks for the response!

Mine also does it. 2015 with adaptive M suspension. Don't think it's anything to be concerned about. Just your car preparing itself for you to drive. (Not sure if it is a suspension thing though)

It's also the fuel pump. The air pump does not turn on every time you unlock the car or you have a leak.

This is correct. Fuel pump pressurizing in preparation for starting the engine. All modern BMW make this sound. All sorts of things happen with X5 when it wakes up and this is one of them. Self leveling suspension only activates when it needs to level the vehicle, like when putting heavy load in the back.

Noise

The air bags should not loose pressure. When the bags are filled the valve shuts off preventing air from escaping. Seems to me there might be a small leak in the bags. Mine both needed replacements this summer. I have a video of the sound but can't upload. Not a cheap repair if you don't have warranty.

Yeah, I hear the noise as well, and I assume it's the fuel pumps charging up. Coming from the n54 engine, this is something that changed when they were burning through pumps on that motor. I went though 5 of them and in the last few software updates they started to precharge the hpfp with the lpfp in the tank. Which is why it sounds like it comes from the rear of the vehicle. I haven't really heard the suspension pump like I used to on my e70, but I assume it just quieter or my e70 had a little leak and just needed it more.

That is NOT normal. The X5 should not be changing height every time you unlock the car. especially by an inch or two. That means you have a leak! The suspension is not adjustable. The pump is also on the passenger side toward the front and the sound coming from the rear is as stated above from the fuel pump in the tank.
