Should I get DCT?

I'm ordering a 09 E90. Hopefully we get the new I Drive but I'm thinking of getting DCT. Without being able to test drive one should I take the chance?

Personal choice.

1. Think more about what you want, what you need and how you drive. This is definitely not a good poll question unless you are running a popularity contest for transmissions.
2. Read up on the forum. The 6MT vs M-DCT discussion has been heated, extensive and covers any question or concern you might have.
3. Search the forum using google not the built in search function. For instance try the hits from the following search. It shows you the syntax for using google as well. Link here.

Agreed, this will just be a popularity contest. The DCT guys love their choice and the 6MT guys love their choice. So I guess it's a win win situation.

I see your point about popularity contest. I mainly want to hear about the cons of the DCT. The only one i'm hearing is the half throttle starts.

If you look the Ultimate guide to thread for both manual and M-DCT you will see lots of useful info from people who have driven one or own one. Much better than any old poll can do.

IMHO it's the best option on the car. I love the DCT. I never have test-drive a DCT. I had bought the car even without a test drive and worried it could be a mistake but for me it's been 95% good.

And since I'm past the break-in it's even better.

Only 5% bad would be hessitation on take-off and slight delay to shift but mainly since prior to break-in I was going light on the throttle, it really helps being past break-in.

Manual purists no matter how good DCT is, or even if it was perfect would still stick with manual ... in your case the mere fact that you are thinking of getting DCT, id say just get it then ... trust me you wont be disappointed ...

If you really know how to drive a 6MT then go for it, beacuse you will have a lot more fun...but if you don't...then DCT...otherwise, you can only drive the car 80%...

Speaking as an owner of a DCT coupe....it really is the best of both worlds.....incredible performance when you want it and easy to drive the other 99% of the time.....its not perfect, but its close
