Squeaky & Noisy Armrest Fix

I have found a cheap and decent fix for those squeaky, noisy arm rests. Mine got so bad that it would squeak with the slightest amount of arm pressure on it. I couldn't take it anymore and had to figure something out and have found a fix. I've been on this fix for a few months now and it has killed 95% of the squeaks and should cost you less than $5 and 5 minutes of your time. Seems to be holding up very well so far.

I used 2 strips of closed-cell sponge rubber tape (Home Depot) and placed a strip at the front and rear top edges of the box so that the 2 arm pads sit on top of the sponge tape when you close them. Note: for the first few days, it will feel tough to close the arm rests but the tape will eventually settle (after a couple of days) and it will work like normal but without the squeaking.

Tape Dimensions:
3/8" (9mm) Wide
3/16" (5mm) Height

I think you guys should find this a pretty useful fix...good luck and let us know if you run into any challenges or have better ideas.

I am going to do this today. With felt, instead of the foam tape.

EDIT:

Yours is different than ours, and I don't have those raised areas where you applied the tape.

If you're referring to the raised areas where the arrow is pointing at, those are actually just imprints from the arm pads when they're closed.

I cut 2 full length strips, about 6.5" in length each, and placed one across the entire length of the front and the other strip across the entire length of the back section...hope i'm making sense.

If it helps any, here is a pic of mine pre-foam install.

Everyone has same armrest box, it's just OP did a cradle delete mod - that's why it looks different.
