Choices for OEM Brake Rotors
Looking at getBMWParts I see a myriad of different rotors for 2014 X5 50i
34-11-6-886-478 97.70 34-21-6-886-480 (Left Right) 127.91 without performance brakes without m model 34-11-6-886-481 (Left Right) 134.98 without performance brakes without m model 34-11-6-789-069 Right 278.65 34-11-6-789-070 Left 278.65 Can somebody shed some light on these, they are all listed to fit the 50i. 1) The two in the middle are listed as left/right, but looking at the parts numbers, they seem to be a L and R. Is this the case? Are they the standard factory install on the 50i? 2) The Last two are performance brakes, is this a bigger rotor than what originally came with the car, maybe the European standard rotor? I vaguely remember them getting bigger rotors. 3) What is the first option, are the rotors even smaller on the 35i and this is the factory rotor for 35i and not to be considered for 50i? I would like the brakes to be a bit better, so assume the performance brake is the way to go, and it requires the performance pads too? Any issue with squealing with performance rotors/pads? Not wanting to spend too much money as the plan is to keep the car for another 2 years, so Brembo kits are not an option. |

I'll keep it simple. Stock 50i brakes in US/Canada come equipped with 345x24mm rear rotors and 365x36mm front rotors. 345mm and 365mm are rotor diameter (or size basically), while 24mm and 36mm is rotor thickness.
To improve braking without spending money on MPBK (M Performance Brake Kit - goes roughly for $2400) or old generation E70 X5M Brembo kit (which unlike your initial assumption doesn't cost more than MPBK) - your easiest solution is to change pads to more aggressive ones like Hawk pads for example: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...PEL-HB749Z-648 There are other pads as well that have better initial bite than stock oem pads. Your rotors and pads will wear down a bit faster, so no free cheese here, but if you want a bit better braking - that's easiest option without changing rotors, calipers and going down the rabbit hole and spending money. P.S. So first option rotor part number you posted is for MPBK or E70 X5M Brembo kit - they both use 395mm front rotor. You wont'be able to use that rotor with your stock 50i front calipers. And since you said you don't want to spend money - forget about that rotor. The two rotors in the middle that you posted are Rear (34-21-6-886-480) and Front (34-21-6-886-481) - both have left and right accordingly. They are for your stock 50i. The last one you posted is once again for MPBK or Brembo kit from E70 X5M - 395mm rotor. You don't want that. Last edited by DuSh; 11-25-2018 at 01:24 PM.. |

Hello everyone. I have a 2011 X5 35d (E70) and I would like to find a good replacement braking system. It more the excessive dusting than the pricing of the brakes that I am unhappy with. I have been considering EBC braking pads and rotors as well as Hawk Performance parts. I haven't found yet which Hawk pads and rotors I would use but for EBC, I have been considering the following:
Pad Part numbers DP31938C front DP32009C rear Rotor part numbers RK1521 OEM style front USR1521 slotted front RK1524 OEM style rear USR1524 slotted rear Have any of you had experience with EBC braking products? I would like to find USA or UK manufactured parts. Thank you. |
