For about the same money which is the best option. Sound quality and functionality in mind. Main goal is carplay but the upgraded screen and I drive software, screen, and touchscreen of the Avin seems pretty cool, plus no box behind the head unit. Car is 2016 x5 with every I drive feature that I know exists. Thanks for any input. Will the upgraded screen and software effect mppk since it’s already on the car.

Avin seems legit and a much more inclusive option than just the CarPlay. Plus it wouldn't have to be plugged in to use CarPlay high would be nice.

I would go with the Avin unit if you want CarPlay. The bimmertech unit would be more toward the sq side.

How does the original reverse or surround camera work when Avin unit is installed? Say I'm using Android google navigation off Avin unit and put the car to reverse, would the screen automatically switch to factory screen? This is same for any other notification (such and CEL messages)?

Don't know. Don't think anyone has one of these. Why not visit the website or ask the makers.

I ordered the avin. All functions work as normal even in android mode. If you put the car in reverse it still works the same as usual. It is somewhat like having two systems though with certain functions working on both platforms. You still retain all your normal idrive bmw functions. You do however get touchscreen and idrive 6 which is pretty cool. Watch bmwdiyguys videos on YouTube. They are extremely informative.

I'm reading up on it and aside from providing better Android and google maps integration or allowing me to play videos on the main screen (something I don't really care about doing), I don't see the benefit of this thing, at least for my own car. Granted, my incoming X5 has every tech option available, so I already get a ton of functionality - I supposed it could be very good for folks who didn't get factory nav, backup cam, and some of the other options. In which case, this thing is a great option.

I was thinking that may be the case. I have played around with the system more today using Siri and it’s pretty good. Good one though on the inferior tech thing.

Yet bmw (like many manufactures) still doesn't offer android auto. Hmmm lol

I like it cause You could use waze maps etc without connected to CarPlay. I do wonder if it's a better resolution screen than the oem one on my 2014.

It's also pretty much the cheapest solution to get android auto or CarPlay in your bmw. Even if you have the hardware most want like $400 just to activate it lol.

Yeah I guess I don't really miss Android Auto, I sort of like the separation of the systems. But Apple Carplay and Android Auto are definitely pretty cool, especially if you don't want to use BMW's nav and use Google or Waze instead. I've always thought BMW's nav is among the best in the auto industry, but I can also see why folks prefer the deep integration of something like Android Auto.

Also, FYI, the reason BMW hasn't added it yet only has to do with privacy issues - the companies can't seem to come to an agreement about how much of a user's data should or shouldn't be made available.

I got it on Friday. The quality as far as looks an build quality looks great. I got this for my wife’s car and she is not sure she is comfortable with id6. I don’t know anything about it either. The touch screen functions are awesome and very snappy. It is all plug and play. So in the end I put it in and took it out simply because of the user interface. Way more advanced then id4. Picture quality looked great also. Going to sell and buy the BimmerTech carplay add on so she is comfortable with it. If any one wants it I will sell for 525 firm shipped. Never took the screen protector off. It has the gps splitter and antenna. Aux wire if needed. Apple car play adapter. Dual usb. And a host of rca plugs if you wish to use them. Everything is brand new and in the box. Text if you want pictures.

Wait wtf why are you selling? Why did you buy in the first place? Just for CarPlay? Does she really not want to try and learn it or is there another reason? Especially with the ability to simply use the oem system right from the main screen it doesn't seem that foreign and car play is just another button. So we're talking two clicks lol or am I missing something?

That's a shame man. Sorry you went through all that nonetheless.

She just wants carplay. It really isn’t as simple as a couple button presses. It’s a totally different operating system. We have had carplay now since 2016 and had it in her previous car. A 2017 Audi A4. We also have it in my company vehicle a 2018 vw atlas. I’ve had it since 2016. First a golf r and now a Audi s3. She loves this x5 and wants to keep it simple like her Audi so that’s why I’m going the other direction. The car is less than a month old also. The system seems great. I may just keep it and let the newness wear off a little, but as of now I would rather sell and keep it simple. It’s really as simple as that.

How long took them to ship and deliver the screen? I placed an order on avinusa.com website and its still processing after 3 days.
