How much to repair this ding on door

The paint chip is about 2mm in size. Also there is a small dent.

Will this be covered by excessive wear and tear protection plan? Thanks

You can use paintless dent repair on the ding for around $100 (had a similar ding fixed) but then have to figure out filling/correcting the paint chip. Either DIY or at a body shop.

That’s what I would suggest too.

it is on a crease pdr will not be an option and if you spot spray it will look worse. you will have to paint the door and blend 12-15" out from the ding. i cannot quote you CAD but any metropolitan area body shop worth their salt would most likely do this job for $600 or so cash.

I politely disagree, I had a ding on the same crease and a PDR place corrected it perfectly including the spots above and below the ding. It looks perfect now and cost $100 out the door. The chip is a whole different challenge.

not sure what labor rates are in your area but at an average of $125 an hour in this area you're prepping and cleaning the spray gun for 1hr (half hour before and half hour after), then prepping the door for primer and paint, then area surrounding for a blend, then polishing the new paint and wet sanding any imperfections, add the cost of material, then mark-up for profit and you're around my original quote. again prices vary by region and if the shop is using illegal labor or not but if you got it done for $100 and are happy with a spot spray then all the better.

At my local indy they called in a Korean dude with a hammer and chisel set fixed a similar dent on my door for I think $100. He was like an artist at work. Spent I think 30 minutes. Didn't use any drill or anything. There was no paint work needed. There was a spot that did need paint that was done by a paint guy that the touch up work for free as he repainting a whole bumper for another car for us, so I couldn't say how much that would have been if it was separate.

I don’t want to spend too much. It’s a lease. Some body shop wants to paint the whole door. I feel it’s an overkill. I just want to have dent removed and touch up the paint chip. Doesn’t need to perfect.

Well you might as well wait towards the end of the lease to do the repair then.

if that is the case just dab a bit of touch-up paint on it and the lease inspector probably wont even see it.

I could get the whole bumper painted for $600. Dear god. I would expect at least the whole door being repainted for that.

I definitely think $100 is on the cheap side but I would think $2-300 for it done right.

But I agree on a lease, just get the dent fixed and hit it with some touch up paint.

I would think since it's on a body line it may not be considered "minor". Plus, it's BMW

Yes that would be the entire door and blending outward at least a foot. Bumper off paint with prep and flex is $900 minimum around here and on average $1200 from a legitimate shop. Again; since it's a lease I would just dab a drop of touch-up on it and go on with life.

My experience from a 3 series i turned in before i got my x5. I am a DM for a well known breakfast chain and my car got keyed up by disgruntle employees I had let go. Luxkily I know a body shop ive been dealing with for a very long time and he fixed all the keyed marks all around the car ad few other things for $600 cash.

Option 1: You can take it to any bmw dealer before ur lease return date 30-60-90 days before and they will tell you what needs to be fixed/replaced or they will charge you, if they let this slide then do return it to that dealer but make sure u get it in writing.

Option 2 is take it to a few body shops and tell them flat out that its a lease return and i need it to just pass on the day i return it.

My take? Touch it up to the best of your ability, then leave it alone. Not worth stressing over.

Dr. ColorChip done properly would hide that very well or a body shop or detail center that specializes in this would be able to do the same for $50-75 around here. The end result would be smooth paint but the ding will remain.
