Busted Wing Mirror!

So yesterday I noticed that someone had hit my wing mirror causing damage to the outer trim
Fortunately neither the front cover nor the mirror were damaged.
Anyone know whether I can replace the damaged trim rather than the whole mirror?
Bearing in mind I have a camera located in the mirror what would be the cost of replacement?
Cheers

That is such an odd place for it to be broken. I'm curious as to how that happens.
Anyways OP, sorry it happened to you. That definitely sucks.

You can buy the outer ring only and replace it. I’m not sure of the cost, but I know it’s a separate part.

The mirror was forced back against the side window resulting in the trim catching where the mirror pivots - hence the corner being damaged.
Certainly unusual especially with the cover and mirror being in one piece.

Not as expensive as you might think. Your mileage may vary.

So in old money terms that's £50 + £150 labour
Wonder how easy it is to do myself?

NP, it depends I guess. How handy are you with a spanner? https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...les/1VnXz3j2D6

Yes, it's actually very easy to fix.

1) Adjust the mirror to make it easier to pop off, unplug heating element and auto-dimmer plugs (the mirror literally is just pull to remove, just don't drop it)
2) Pop off back cover (the part facing forward that is painted)
3) Remove screws on bottom half of mirror
4) Remove bottom half of mirror that also includes the mirror surround that is broken in your picture, and unplug blind spot and camera
5) Transfer turn signal and camera to new piece; the camera can only be inserted on way, it is keyed.
6) Reverse to install

I cracked both sides, one side I hit a wall when my car was new, the other got hit by a bus and actually smashed my turn signal as well, my mirror housing folding in so much past the post of normally folding that it actually hit my glass and it cracked the housing like yours. First side took me about 10 minutes (with the turn signal), but once I figured it out, the other side took me 3 minutes.

That says "Security Plus" which is the armored version of the X5, not applicable the regular mirror.

Thanks Alphaod that's encouraging and helpful information.
So I don't need to take the whole mirror housing off from the inside pillar of the car?
How much force do I need to remove the mirror from the housing - does if just pop off? I assume the mirror needs adjusting to be able to get a decent finger hold on the edge to pull it out?

I did this repair also. 15 mins tops and less than 10 screws. Piece of cake.

Tilt mirror all the way up. Pull it up and out from the bottom. All screws are accessible at this point. I did not need to remove the front cover, but mine was shattered a lot more than yours.

Everything is done outside the car. A little bit of force, but not a lot. Kind of like popping off a snap fastener on a jacket or something. Just much bigger.
