M3 Battery
I read elsewhere that the batteries in the F80s are Lithium-Ion and cost upwards of $1,200. Typical new batteries seem to go around the 3-4 year mark. Are these batteries designed to last longer than that?

Information about the LiFePO4 battery can be found here, in Section 6 of the F80/F82 Complete Vehicle Technical Training/Production Information document: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/att...5&d=1406475520
There is no mention of battery life other than the charging cycles, which is more than 14 times that of a lead acid/AGM battery (5,000 vs. 350). That also doesn't take into account other factors such as the environment, temperature, frequency, time between starts, etc. The earliest F8xs are now 4-5 years old. I don't recall any posts about anyone having to replace their battery because it died but that doesn't mean there haven't been any.

Average Lifespan of lead acid or AGM batteries can be anywhere from 3-7 years based on many factors. Given the much higher charging cycle (5000), one could expect anywhere from 5-10 years on the LifePO4 batteries, but that would also depend on many factors.
If you are concerned, get the battery checked either at BMW or any shop equipped with tools for Lirhium iron phosphate. ISTA also has few procedures that read battery information that could or not show signs related to battery health. |

At least bmw includes it in the price of the car. For Porsche, we get to pay this very modest fee for the upgrade:

The battery costs around 1300 euro. I believe that these were build to last about 10 years/150,000 KM. Advise is to use the CTEK BMW Battery charger for keeping the battery in condition or have it reconditioned. I don’t use it as I drive my F82 on daily basis for long distances.
