New M4 owner with some questions
Hello everyone,
I just purchased my first, used 2018 M4 a couple weeks ago and shortly thereafter found this site. I have to say there is A TON of great info on here and I just joined today. Needless to say, the M4 is the best driving and performing car I've ever purchased. The quality is outstanding and the looks are amazing. Anyway, I do have a few questions after reading the user manual and scanning this forum that I hope you guys can help me answer. My apologies for just dumping these here. If there's a more appropriate place I should post these, let me know and I'll move my questions to the correct posting thread in the forum. 1) Did these cars originally come equipped with an Emergency Kit in the trunk? I read about this in the user manual, but my car did not have one. 2) I also read about an emergency/hazard triangle that supposed to be mounted on the underside of the trunk lid, that you can remove if you have a break-down. Is this true? Again, this is missing from my car. 3) What color are the valve stem caps that were originally installed from the factory? What do they look like...any pictures? I have green Nitrogen caps on my valve stems, which look awful and I'd like to replace them with the correct caps. 4) I saw on this forum where someone had a "wheel holder tool" to assist with lining up the wheels after you remove them. Where can I buy one of these? 5) I do my own oil changes, so where can I purchase the correct oil filter cap adapter/wrench to remove the black plastic cap to replace the filter? 6) How do you re-set the oil change notification without taking the car to the dealer? 7) Lastly...is there an on-line assembly manual or service manual I can reference for torque specs., part numbers, assembly drawings, etc. I know this is a lot...any help would be really appreciated. Thanks everyone! |

Many of your questions could be answered via a search. Try this, for example:

Many questions. I would personally not reset the oil service interval unless you are planning to not bring it to the dealer at all which I would not recommend at all since oil and filter are not the only things to change regularly. There is a lot of info here:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f82-m4-cou/ Paying for nitrogen is b.s. Regular ‘air’ already comes with 78% nitrogen. Thanks everyone. Very helpful information. I agree with the Nitrogen comment. This was done by the dealer where the car was originally sold from. I would never have had this done.
Is it possible to buy the oil filter wrench (11 9 240) and the wheel installation tool direct from BMW? Also I believe the original valve stem caps were grey. Can anyone confirm with a picture? Thanks again! |

You can buy the wrench tool even at Amazon. Just search online for the part number.
I believe that the original caps were gray but I replaced these with the M caps that you can buy online as well: https://www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/3...ALVE-STEM-CAPS |

Yes, especially because there aren't already enough ///M logos on the car

Congrats and welcome to the forum
1) What do you mean by "emergency kit"? If it is the ///M mobility flat repair kit, yes you should have one, but I recommend never using it. You will just end up gunking up your wheel that will cost a fortune to get cleaned. 2) The triangle is a standard item in Europe but not in North America, unless a European Delivery was made with the car.

Just remember that because these are not plastic to regularly loosen them and tighten them back on, but not too hard. |

There should be a first-aid and a tire repair kit under the cargo floor panel if present. I don't the rules for all the countries but in Belgium for example the first-aid kit is obligatory and so is a warning triangle, fire extinguisher and a fluo jacket. Even when not provided by the dealer it must be present in the car.

...and don't get me started on the interior But if you like the ///M valve stems, it's only up to you. To each their own

Just have mobility kit and I think little first aid baggie. Never opened it. Probably some band aid or some such. Had triangles for ED and it was in the trunk lid - got taken away when the car as shipped. Stem caps are silver plastic. The tool is really not necessary, especially if you're the type who changes oil. I change wheels twice a year (winter wheels) and never really had any issues.
