Aftermarket pads installed, unsettling loud clunking/clicking from reverse to drive
Car is brand new, no other parts are worn out. I installed PFC11s and replaced brake fluid with Motul 600. The brakes work great, but I hear real nasty sounds coming from my caliper every time I reverse and initially when I go back into drive. Once I'm in drive, it goes away. What could be causing this? Should I be concerned? How can I fix this without going back to the stock pads?

Normal with most track pads. This happened with my stock calipers and RS29s and still happens on my Essex/AP kit with Ferrodo pads. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks bud. I've researched this a little bit so I don't mean to dig up an old question but there seems to be various answers. I'm just mostly concerned with this leading to brake failure on the track.

Normal. Doesn’t create a brake safety issue. It’s caused by the pad backing plate shifting around in the caliper and contacting the caliper pad guides (especially when changing braking directions from forward to reverse and vice versa).

Just in case anyone searches for this thread in the future, here's an update:
The pads worked extremely well on the track, no issues at all. I put the stock pads back in for daily driving and the noise completely went away. Will put the PFC11s back in before the next track day with confidence that the noise is not an issue. |
