2016 f15 media replacement with 4x4canada in Orange County

Hi guys i got a 2016 f15 m sport and got a bit disappointed when main media unit does not have touch and other features that 2017 models do.

So I went ahead and ordered a unit with full car play support and media playback from 4x4shop canada.

After 3 weeks it finally arrived but with minimal instructions on how to fit it in. Any of you knows a specialist to fit it in in the Orange County or greater Los Angeles for it? It almost is like a plug and play unit but I would not attempt to do it myself.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

I just did a diy in installing these type of units. It will take you an hour or two. Super easy. I've done it like 4 times now in the last 3 months.

Or just pay Ben. He's worth every penny!

Your first post on this forum is a link to a supplier of parts, and could be seen as advertising for their website.
Some companies will try guerrilla marketing like this, pretend to be a member of a forum etc.
Anyway, welcome to Bimmerpost, Ben is great to deal with, and post some pictures of your X5, so we know you are for real.

Nice!
Though, you should talk to Ben about springs and spacers.

Also some photos of the unit received.

It's probably not that hard but Car has original Rear/Front cameras/ Navigation that need to be splitter. Also want to have USB's and HDMI put through to a glovebox or else accessible.

Ya that's the standard wire package you got. All super easy. You don't need to use half those wires btw. Those mostly are for aftermarket cameras and audio. Just blue gps splitter that you have that goes into back of head unit and then up to screen and into blue gps cable. All obvious once open as there is only 1 blue. And running to glove box is easy too but I don't think we have a knockout for aux input like in other models but I may be wrong. I just didn't see it.

I ran my lightning cables from usb splitter with 1 under head unit and out the front to go into my phone mount. And the other goes out the right side between the knee bolster and tucks up under the trim so it can be pushed back in for a concealed look. I can post pics if you like.

Not experience or use of an hdmi cable so didnt order one with it.

Pics would be great as I want to run a similar set up to what you have. Any update on how you're liking the unit after a week, Mav?

Very similar connections except for how the screen comes off in F15s.

Ya I'll take a couple later. As far as the unit I love it so far. Car play is flawless and way better than unichip and I didn't have it on the Avin. Glad I got it cuz sometimes Wifi doesn't auto connect to my hot spot and it's much faster. I do like the native app better than car play. Just looks more professional. Always felt CarPlay looks childish. We'll see how iOS 13 does with the new CarPlay although I'll be deployed when then happens.

I managed to install the unit today. Was somewhat easy though once connected the aspect ratio of the original screen was very bad. Have not got any instructions with the unit but the interface of Android was nice. Running Android 9.0 with CarPlay. I read on the box that there is a Factory reset to be done but after resetting it removed the interface and all the CarPlay app etc and looks not like an old CIC unit. Also was not sure which cable was GPS to split so went ahead with the BLUE

Issues at the moment:
- Unit is Factory reset and screen is too small to respond to Touches.
- No bluetooth
- Cannot get anything to work and no support from 4x4shop as there is a Weekend

I will keep working through it to see if can get it up and running. Attached is a video that was shot right after install.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.
