Took a ride with the shop foreman when I brought my CPO 2015 x35i in for some service today. We chatted about the issue (noises from worn out suspension bushings and lower front control arms), which he found immediately, then moved on to talk about random stuff. Anyway, he let me know that it's great that I got and planned to keep a CPO F15 x35i since it's one of the more solid car - if not the most - that BMW produces in recent years. He himself and several other techs who have family also choose the F15 x35i (most off lease at deep discounts) for its better reliability in comparison to the E70. The G05 is another story since it's so new, but he told me that even the F15 x35i since its launch in 2014 has seen the least issues out of all the X's models including the E70 previously and G05 now. Yes, any car can and will give you issue on any given day, but hearing this from the master tech really gave me some increased comfort in my daily driver also doubled duty as a family car...Personally, I've had little issues during my ownership of the F15 thus far (knock on wood) compared to my previous E90 328i or my relatives' and friends' different BMW models, and the F15 has way more electronic toys than all of those cars. Anyway, just wanted to share with you guys what I learned today, which I'm sure many of us have come to realize so far. Happy and safe driving!

I think the F15 is a solid generation, too bad BMW cut it short.

Cut short indeed….E53 lasted 2000-2006, E70 2007-2013, F15 2014-2018.
Fierce competition most likely drove the change, perhaps gas consumption regulations, too. |

And that's another reason why F15 is so reliable - it's an old platform. You can check it for yourself - E70 share the same wheelbase and width. And there are so many parts reused from E70 to F15 as well.

My 2014 F15 is my first X5, prices here in The Netherlands are very high compared to most places (the new price of my truck was $112,000 incl. sales tax), so in 4 yrs when I trade mine in I will be looking for a low mileage but fully loaded 2018 F15 as I am so impressed with this one

Undoubtably, but used prices for the G05 will not be in my price range

Yea their where things of the e70 that made it one of the most handsome of the SAV's in its class, the only bad thing is when they widened the F15 they had reduced the sexy wide fender flairs so the F15 is a little flat on the sides, But I can tell you after driving the G05 now for about a month as my 40e is getting a new engine, the G05 is not a better vehicle, maybe on paper it is but driving it I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling.
the styling is ehhhh you can have a different opinion but it's overly busy and the interior is also lacking. I find myself wanting my F15 back. I also like the NBT system over their latest incarnation as it's easier to navigate. To me it's like when apple releases the two iPhones at the same time. The f15 is still current as it's only been 4 years so it's not dated and the new tecky G05 is loaded with new teck but it's not really better just for styling sake. Wife feels it feels heavier while driving and also misses her f15. Not every incarnation will be better just because it's new, you can throw some widgets and some trim here and their but the F15 is a home run and it's the best of both worlds. My e70 I loved the exterior but the interior left me cold. The f15 made leaps and bounds in the interior quality update. And I find myself not really loving the G05's interior. It feels off and cost reduced. The f15 is a very refined vehicle and looks great be proud to own one. |
