US spec speed limiter with video
I see a lot of talk about the speed limiter on the US spec vehicles, so I figured I would post my pictures of the speed limit and my video of the first time I hit the speed limit. It shows me entering the Autobahn from L46. At about 1:50 or so is the first time the power cut out. Note... it isn't a full power cut, just enough to keep you from accelerating any further. The speedo isn't very visible, so I attached some pictures from a subsequent run.
BTW, I wish American drivers would get out of the way the way German drivers do!!

Thanx Krank good video. I got up just past 170 like you did, but did not have any room left on the autobahn to try and push it furhter. I was actually just a tad faster maybe 1 or 2mph. But I did not feel any limiter.
What does it feel like when you hit the limiter? |

The camera is mounted to a regular tripod with a few strings anchoring it to various places in the back seat area for stability. It still allowed some shake, so I am evaluating new ways to mount it.

just sacred driving like that here in South Africa, some idiot decides to switch to the fast lane ... Germans are courteous in giving you way, it simply wont happen easily here .. lol
how many stone chips you picked up on that run, noticed a few trucks you passed??? but the E9x M is a monster of note ... also im sure you had a full tank of gas before this drive ... lol!!!!

It almost looks like you're about to hit that sign/cones merging into one lane at the end of the video. . .did you come close?

Great video and pics, I can tell you made a stop at the food court to get something to drink prior to your video on the Autobahn Oh and by the way welcome back from down range glad you made it home safe, from one service member to another. Which Autobahn was you driving on?

Thanks for answering my question with the first thread I read, I signed on right now to find out what the limiter is in our car b/c I hit 1.5.7 this morning on the way into work, I knew it wasn't 1.5.5 but I was just wondering...car feels just the same doing 65 when doing that speed just that the wind noise and the engine/exhaust are screaming....I could have stretched it a little more but I didn't want to push my luck and I was going to catch up to cars way ahead....

I've been on that road and recognized it instantly. Awesome top speed video. I love the AAFES cup in the cup holder.
Did you continue up to the Nurburgring? It's under an hour from there at those speeds. I'd love to see some video from the ring with your car. If I was stationed at Spang, I'd be there every weekend. If you're looking for a better mounting system try http://www.cruisecam.com/Mount_new.pdf It works great, here's some video I shot with it. and on the track Works great. Now lets see those ring videos.

Especially in NJ/PA/NY, people love to ride the left lane at whatever speed suits them and can't understand why people are honking at them when they are cruising at 67 in a 65 in the left lane.

Honestly, out of the 3 listed above NY drivers are by far the worst. They won't get out of the left lane unless you push them out of the way. It never fails.

As for the gas... I had just filled up prior to the shooting of the video, which was shot on the way to the ring. The pictures were taken on the same stretch of Autobahn going the other way after 4 laps at the ring. Quote:

Funny thing about the Nurburgring... photography is prohibited on the track now. I did manage to get the first lap on Camera, but the officials made me remove the camera at the gate for the second lap. I tried to sneak the camera back onto the tripod for the 4th lap and they stopped me on the track and banned me for the rest of the year. So much for that 10 lap pass I bought. I considered posting the first lap video, but deployments had kept me away from the ring for the last 2 years, and I couldn't remember the track for the life of me, so it is filled with horrible mis-calculations and the audio is a constant string of me making up excuses for being such a horrible driver. I even went off the track and across the grass at the blind decreasing radius left turn... I think it is called Adenaur Forst. If you want a video to show people how NOT to drive the ring, I have it.... The picture shows the big rules board at the ticket office. I placed a white arrow at the line that prohibits cameras.

Too bad they kicked you off the ring, that makes for an expensive 4 laps. At that price you have to post your lap. Watch my lap, it'll make you feel better.
I think Adenaur Forst is the most difficult corner (corners) on the entire ring IMHO. If you watch this you'll see I even commented on it in this video. It was a 95hp MB B class on snow tires. I wasn't a fast lap. BTW, you're now living in the land of America's slowest drivers. There's even a threat about it.

Greetings from Spangdahlem! I also ran up to 170mph (indicated) on the A60 enroute to the Ring. Logged 3 laps today and 1 lap yesterday. Wish the place wasn't so packed, I'm going to hit it again tomorrow. Hopefully the Germans will have to work tomorrow so I get more of the track to myself.
