My M3 rattles

Hey all,

Wondering if anyone else has excessive rattling inside their car when driving? I typically drive in Sport or SP+ and often hear a lot of creaks and rattles when hitting bumps or whatever. Car has 25K.

BMWs have so many plastic parts that lack of rattle is the exception.

It's probably from the glove box area, it's a manufacturing flaw. Take it to the dealer, I had two rattles fixed on 17' M4 CP. It was so annoying that the car felt like new after rattles were fixed.

I’ve spent hours upon hours disassembling my M3 diagnosing all of the idiotic rattles. I’ve applied easily 20 feet of adhesive felt to quiet things down. The one rattle I wanted the dealer to fix? They “lubricated” a plastic panel and it made no difference. I removed the panel and used adhesive felt all over it and now it’s quiet.

This needs to be a focus area for the new G80 M3.

The thing which bugs me the most is the drivers seat rubbing on the center console in my M4 - "squeak squeak squeak" most every time I move in the seat.

have had rattles since I got the car with 25 miles on it. most were fixed by Concord bmw through some tape on door seals. still have rattles here and there, though. I've gotten used to them now

You need to be more descriptive in the type of a "rattle" that you are chasing down. What part of the car is it coming from? Interior? Exterior/suspension?

BMWs are not known for their quietness, but the most noises that drive me nuts emanate from the rubber door seals. These can be quieted with liberal application of Gummi-Pflege rubber lubricant:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...CABEgLNWPD_BwE

I typically have to go through a round of application every spring.

Then there are plastic-on-plastic sounds from the interior panels. Those can be a PITA to identify and troubleshoot. If you search the archives, there is a detailed post, with pictures, of someone chasing down all of the panels and applying felt to the rubbing areas.

Either that, or just crank up the sounds!

HTH,
a

Literally the most frustrating thing about all BMWs I've owned. The m4 is no different, and for me, has been worse than the others. About to take it apart and fix them all. Getting a new one every week it seems. Dallas concrete roads are horrible..

Thanks all. Yes, it is less of a rattle and more of a squeak. Coming from inside the car seemingly from everywhere.

I would just give in and live with the rattles lol. Might create more from tearing the car apart.

It's most likely the door seals. Mine creaked like crazy and took it to dealer. It was a two trip process because the initial fix didn't last. But now...she's quiet as can be.

I would agree, most of my rattles and creaks were coming from the rear door seals, this was fixed with Teflon tape, the car seems quite now.
I tried the seal lubricant Gummi Pflege, it never seemed to last more than a few days, I’m hoping this will last.

There's been extensive discussions about how to fix different rattles, most listed on this thread, 13 pages of them, https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1031768.

Personally applying Krytox grease on the black shadow line made a huge difference. Definitely worth the $50, https://www.amazon.com/Chemours-Kryt...gpl%2B205&th=1

Rattling is different than creaks. If your car is actually creaking, search the forum for creaks or creaking, which for M3s is often the door seals rubbing against the shadowline trim. The solution is teflon tape. The solution can be found in the threads related to creaking.

Maybe I'm lucky, but I don't have any noise besides the creaky seals, which I solve my wiping down a couple times a near with Wurth Rubber Care. Even lowered on MP HAS.
