Any suspension or steering updates to the base (non ZCP) model since the first year?
I had a 15 M3 manual, sold it. Looking to pick up a 17 or 18 non ZCP.
Have there been any updates to the suspension or steering since launch? The 15 I had crashed over bumps a bit much, and the steering was pretty numb for a BMW. Wondering if there have been tweaks made over the previous model years. TIA

There have been several software updates to every system on the car. The suspension, steering, Traction control, throttle map, etc. have all been recalibrated. I've had my car updated twice by the dealer. A newer M3 will be better than your 2015, but you should still test drive just to be sure it meets your expectations.

Did you notice a difference after the sw updates? How is your M3 on Michigan roads. Is it too rough/bouncy? I'm also considering an M6 GC for the softer ride, although I prefer the M3 over it for looks and manual trans.

It's reasonable on most roads and much better than when I bought it in 2015.

I'm in the same scenario, I have a base M4 and I want all the new updates. How do I request it from the dealer?

I have a 2018 M3 non-ZCP w/ adaptive (was adaptive standard in '18?) and its extremely comfortable in all 3 modes. Sport Plus is definitely stiffer but doesnt "crash over bumps" as you've described. Car is driven in NYC where the roads mirrors the surface of the moon. Car is also on stock 18s.
Unfortunately i cant compare to prior year F80's, but compared to a previous car (Subaru, lowered on HKS coilovers, which are known to be extremely comfortable), the 2018 is a better ride. |
