Radio & idrive Blackout
Hey guys
Last week on my way home my radio, idrive and audio went completely out and non responsive. shortly after it threw me a code for the SOS system not working. over the span of 18 hours the system restarted restarted and died before it completely went dark and unresponsive the next day. I ended up trying to self diagnose the problem and first pulled the screen looking for loose connections. All was fine on the screen part. After that I pulled out the radio head itself and took it apart looking for a blown capacitor and still nothing looked like it was wrong. I checked the fuses and even did a MOST system reset and its still dead giving me the same code. At this point I am out of ideas as to what to do and would like to see if anyone has a possible explanation as to what could be the issue before I take it in to the dealership to have them fix it. Checked a few places on the forums but they didn't seem like much help. Anyone have any suggestions? Vehicle is a 2010 E90 M3 w/ idrive 5 |

How can you be so sure? I have this same issue in my 2013 X5d (happened about 2 weeks ago) and I've done quite a bit of research and it seems like a component failure in the MOST network is the most likely cause (satellite receiver failure is most common).

I actually had the exact same failure in a e90 328, in my case it was the satellite module located in the trunk. Basically the MOST loop looks for this device during the boot up process and if it doesnt see it, than the system just endlessly tries to reboot (my screen was blank or sometimes would flicker on) or you get no sound.
Thing is it can be any device tied to the MOST loop, so sometimes you have to get a fiber optic jumper cable to bypass the device in hopes of isolating the respective module or head unit. |
