Has anyone ever done a side exit exhaust right in front of the rear wheels? It would look so awesome coming out of the rear of the rocker panels but obviously the gas tanks and bracing are in the way! Pesky gas tanks. It would have to sit below the rocker panel and it would hang pretty low, but the sound with the windows down on a coupe would be incredible.. I don't think it would be a major PIA between the wheels for driveways, speed bumps etc. it would leave the rear open for a big aggressive diffuser too.. has it been done before?

I acquired the akra rear (side) from the m8 GTE car, I'm gonna try and fab up a side exit for the e92. Most likely they'll become wall art or trash trying but I'm gonna give it a shot.

I've randomly given this thought but does seem that the piping would have to run pretty low along with similarly low side skirts. In the pic, there is very little clearance to the ground, I imagine this would make going up driveways pretty much impossible unless a very long, shallow slope and so alot of streetability would be lost.

Running the pipes out of the side offers possible weight reduction due to the reduced amount of piping/mufflers and also opens up the opportunity to fab a more functional rear diffuser with the mufflers gone.

Good luck, interested in seeing what you come up with!

joe@trinityautosport made a custom 2 to 1 exhaust with a side exit on the driver's side for their track car

YouTube search "ALMS 2009 or 2010 races" and see what happens when the factory pushes the E92 chassis flat-plane style with the exhaust you speak of. Then giggle when the side exhaust flashes fireballs on corner downshifts!
