First failure

My '15 M4 was just in the shop at 38.7k mi. because of a check engine (increased emissions) light on. Turned out to be a failed O2 sensor, "Moisture entered the internal insulation layers of the oxygen sensor."

I had my clutch replaced under warranty for a occasional minor roughness, but this is really the first outright failure I've had. Was covered by the 8/80 emissions warranty, of course.

I would think the O2 sensor would be too hot for any moisture to build up in there. But it is good to know. Thanks.

It looks like it must have failed outside of the 80,000 mile emissions warranty. What was the cost?

Is the emissions warranty longer than the general warranty (50k m / 80k km)??

In the US it is, 8yr/80k. California and some other states are 10/100 on ATPZEV and I think SULEV vehicles as well. (Hybrids and whatnot)

U.S. and Canada emissions standards may differ and there may be different emissions warranties.

In the U.S., the warranty is up to 8 years/80,000 miles for certain emissions-related components, so to answer your question, yes, for U.S. vehicles, and the mileage is in miles, not kilometres. Your situation may differ.

5 year old vehicle that is lightly driven and lives in a wet environment...

Not exactly a surprise that moisture helped that component fail
