Insurance - Modified or No
Hello guys,
What do you understand from "has your car been modified any way"? Insurance company went crazy because of carbon bonnet, they treat me like a drag racer. What do you tell to your insurer generally? It seems like they even complain about the side skirts! should I tell every bit like shocks, springs, bonnet, spoiler, cf trunk, bigger wheels, downpipes, exhaust, steering wheel etc? Ok I can hear you guys saying it is clearly modified but those don't seem like a big deal as most of them don't have negative impact on safety but the opposite. So what I wonder is like every time I make a small difference should I call insurer and give them a reason to cancel my policy? also the car registered as yellow in log book but it has CF bits like bonnet, boot. In some countries I know it should be registered as yellow and black but never heard of anything like this in UK. even police didn't say anything about it but insurer says I gotta tell this to DVLA? Please have your comments and don't forget to mention the country and your past experiences. |

USA - Insurance company didn't actually care that much about my car mods. They had to increase my premium by a little bit just to cover the new items, but it's not much extra. It's a fairly common thing.
If you don't care about the mods in a total loss event, then you don't need to report it to your insurance company.
