Dilemma about rims... What would you do?

Howdy,

I have an M3 comp running 666m and want some lighter wheels

I have been offered a low price for 763m original wheels with cups's all round. The only problem is the current owner had them painted another colour which he didn't like so now he is buying some BBS forged. I will see if he can ask the shop to revert them back to the dark chrome grey colour. The other issue I have is that they are 20x10j on the rears. I would ideally like 11j for better traction.

The other wheel is inspiri ffr6 brand new 19x9j on front and 19x11j on the rear. The weight of these wheels are approx 10kg or 22-23lbs. As you can tell Im not looking the spend a whole lot, I decided to look into it when the above offer came up.

Things to consider:
1. 763m have had a colour change, they are used but they will be better quality as forged, they are about the same weight as inspiri, 19s front and 20s rear.
2. FFR6 are new come in a nice bronze finish, I can get 11j, they are flow form so slightly weaker wheel, all four wheels are 19 inch.

What would you do? I track my car to add.

Ispiri alloys always scream vdub stancenation to me.

Look up Apex forged wheels, proven wheels not only for the track. I'd also suggest OEM 513M as you can get a used set on the cheap and they are under 10 kg each but you won't be able to shove as wide tyres in the rear if that's what you really want.

Highly suggest searching through the wheels&tires section.

I'd go with the forged option. shouldn't cost too much to have a reputable shop powder coat them back to the color of your preference. $400-500

763m <==almost a no brainer. i say 'almost' only because personal aesthetic preferences may play some small role. for me, appearance of 763m is just fine, tyvm. these are very high quality forged lightweight wheels and imho are a bargain even at full retail. even more a bargain used, and in this case further discounted because seller painted them. he really painted them? smh. betting seller is well aware he'll have to discount. the good news is the discount will cover most of the cost of having them powder-coated any color you want. I have 265/285 on mine with no complaints at all.

Wider tyres = better track times

Japs run 10j and 11j on their mountain dashes.

My ideal rims would be BBS forged and custom but I haven't made it yet to afford them.

if you are tracking i'd stick with forged. Go with the 763m and have them repainted to whatever color you like. The wheels are strong, less likely to have a failure, and will hold value very well compared ispiri

If you weren't tracking then a flow-formed wheel like a VMR, AG, Apex, HRE FF01 etc would be fine for road use.

£2.5k for refinished 763m is a bit expensive imo. In the states, they go for $3k - $3.5k USD in original Orbit Grey finish with tires usually, sometimes $4k if the tires are really new and may include tpms. The Orbit Grey finish is what makes them pricier, if you look up prices and compare to the M Performance black finished ones.

The best 763m are from a CS and in original Orbit Grey. The 763m with the M Performance engraved, aren't as nice or rare imo.

You should look in to the wheels Richland Forged released a few months ago that are based on the 763m and gt4 wheels. Also, stunning wheels.

BMW Wheels dive in value once powder coated a different color.

BBS FIRs or bust.

Try and find a used set that hasn't been molested, treat them well and you won't lose any money.

Buy a new set if available and for an $8k purchase you'll lose $2k assuming you keep them clean and unmolested.

Buy any of the cheapo who knows where the f they source the materials let alone R&D'ed them wheels praised by dj no clues > you'll always have a "subsidized" and marginalized experience. Want to sell them? Pennies on the dollar and a pain to unload because no one wants them.

We are talking as light as 16.5 lbs and 18.5 lbs at worst with FIRs. The discerning ones are putting their trust in top level wheel strength and stiffness values backed by world class motorsport engineers. You think these ig or designer purse sounding wheel shops have the technical nous to deliver? There is a palpable change in driving dynamics and emotion knowing you're riding on the best sht out there.

You drive a current gen M car homey. Dont you and it deserve the best driving experience if lightweight is what you're after?

Go big or stay home.

P.S. BBS team you can Venmo me later

APEX now has their EC-7 wheel in a forged version - light, and less expensive than BBS. But BBS is decidedly the best if the price isn't a deterrent.

I'm on a budget at the moment, just making a few life sacrifices at the moment but when it pays off then I'll get my baby some new shoes.

Anyone running 19 inch BBS Fi-R with CCB or 20s only?

19s clear CCBs easily. BBS made them to be able to clear stock CCBs without issues. I have seen Justin.AutoTalent run a lot of FI-Rs, all mainly 19s and he never had problems. It's one of the perks of having FI-Rs.

You can run 20s but it isn't necessary.

That's amazing!

So little choice when your want 19s but there is doubt about clearance. Has anybody got pics of 19s clearing CCBs?
