evaluation help - stripper E90 M3 - (for agreed upon value policy)
Hello all,
First off, I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section. I'm switching my insurance policy over to Hagerty and they offered me an agreed-upon value policy, I'm seeking help valuing my car. I've also considered selling my car for an E92/F80 but as soon as I think of that I automatically feel incredibly guilty, so I'll put that issue on the back burner. More details can be found below. Just recently I saw a slicktop E90 with ~85k miles sell for $37k, another E90 M3 with around the same miles I have on my car was also just listed for close to $30k. I honestly have no clue where the market is at. Specs/Car: 2009 E90 M3 - 3rd owner Alpine White Cloth Interior Single Hump (no navigation) DCT ~105k miles (subject to change) Exterior: 8.5/10 Interior: 8.5/10 Maintenance: - Rod Bearings, oil pan gasket, etc. done @ MRF (~98k) - OEM Engine Monuts (~98k) - OEM Transmission Mounts (~98k) - OEM Exhaust Hangers (~98k) - OEM Differential Bushings (~98k) - Refurbished OEM Driveshaft, with new center support bearing (~100k) - Flex Disc / Guibo (~100k) - Diff fluid, DCT fluid, coolant, and power steering fluid recently flushed - Throttle Body Actuators done @ BMW at ~65/70k miles - Start / Stop button replaced with OEM unit - Cup Holder trim replaced with OEM unit - A-Pillar trim piece replaced with OEM unit - Steering Wheel trim replaced with OEM unit - Center dashboard trim piece replaced with OEM unit Modifications: - KW Clubsports, 672lb springs front | 900lb springs rear - Hotchkis Swaybars - SPL front end links - Hotchkis rear end links - SPL spherical front control arm bushings - SPL rear toe arms w/ lockouts - MRF Engineering Solid Rear Subframe Bushings - MRG Titanium 82mm studs - Bimmerworld 12mm spacer (rear) - Alpine Stage One tune w/ GTS DCT flash Brakes: - New hardlines - BimmerWorld stainless steel lines - Cool Carbon (ST) brake pads front & rear - RBF 660 brake fluid Wheels/Tires: - 18x10et25 front | 18x10.5et25 rear APEX-ARC8s - Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, 275/35r18 squared ~1k miles on them Any help would be much appreciated. I again am sorry if I placed this in the wrong section. |

My understanding of Hagerty doesn't require this much effort.
I shopped Hagerty when I acquired my E92 last spring. My agent didn't object when I threw out a $45K market value (more then I paid)- which lead me to believe that a "my value" wasn't an issue. They did require a single premium payment. I ended up adding it to our primary insurer for less hassle. I may circle back to Hagerty next year as I know most other insurers would low ball my value on a total loss.

As for insurers, that's the primarily reason for why I switched. I know if something ever happened to my car, I would have to struggle to get more than $15k (or whatever) out of them—especially considering they won't take into account the spec, favorable condition of the car, mods & maintenance, etc. |

I am with Hagerty and SnohoRaptor is correct. I threw out a number for my car for agreed upon value and they said ok. Not sure if a higher number affects premium though.

I have Hagerty as well. As long as the number is within "an acceptable range" for a particular model they will accept it. The higher the value you request, the higher your premium will be though. I have a 2013 E93 (which commands the lowest value of all E9x cars) and I insured mine for $35k. I paid significantly less for the car. Also keep in mind as you perform upgrades and the car becomes more rare, you can increase the insurance value.

Declared value is the important element.
Our other car is a super clean, original owner, 1997 Honda delSol vtec. Kelley Blue book values it at $2,500 but I have seen several similar cars on Bring a Trailer go for $12,000-15,000. One even brought $22K. Hagerty let me declare a $12,000 value and I don't have to worry about it any more. Just had to send three photographs. Plus you get membership in Hagerty's Drivers club and a cool monthly magazine.
