F82 vs F36 CAR Insurance Cost Comparison

Hello F82 members, just trying to figure out if what I’m being told is true or not. Is it true that the fact that I mention the word M4 to any insurance company automatically the price of my insurance is going to jump dramatically? Or is this just a myth?

Back when I was checking for M2, M3, M4, TTRS, Alfa Romeo Guilia QV, I think the TRRS and the M4 insurance were highest, but all pretty close. I think coupes are higher and higher value will be higher and from what I’ve been told, not having back seats is generally higher.

I’m also in Houston, a lot has to do with your age and driving record.
I have one ticket in the last 3 year, also 62 years old with 5 insured vehicles.

I’m paying $4200 a year on 5 fully insured vehicles with Allstate.
Not letting them track any kind of behavior.

Z06: $1246/ year
M4: $1199/ year

Call, in and get an estimate from your current insurance agency.
I did that from trading from a ‘17 C7 Vette to a ‘16 C7 Z06, the ‘16 Z06 was actually cheaper by about $60/ year. WTF?

Insurance will definitely be higher. Your individual driver risk is the same, but the value of the M4 is higher and I would guess that the insurance risk models show that the M4 is at higher risk of an accident or costly damage than a non-M car.

Myth. Definetly a myth. As others said it has something to do with record age yada yada yada, but also they need to account how often does one get wrecked.

My 2009 Toyota Camry's car insurance is 700 dollars for 6 months. My 2019 BMW M4's car insurance is 900 for 6 months. Idk why a 10 year old car is almost the same cost of my M4...I asked my insurance it's something to do with how many are on the road.

My insurance quoted me a cheaper rate for a new M4 compared to a 3 year old 335i at the time. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1340736

Insurance is calculated by same car types in your area and claim amounts.

It so happens not alot of people are totalling M4's compared to cars like ecoboost stangs and wrx's, mostly because the price of entry for M4's lowers the chance a young guy such as myself obtains one, with age comes maturity.

Also the fact that alot of M4s are not winter driven or DD'd. Combined that with extensive safety features, an incredibly rigid chassis, the chance of physical damage and massive claims are greatly reduced.

This is why sometimes a car from years ago is much harder to insure at higher premiums at time

I went from an Audi S4 to an F82 in 2015. I don’t remember the exact change in insurance, but remember it wasn’t much. It was bigger going from F82 to F83.

Just call the insurance company and ask, or go online to price it if your insurer has an online pricing tool.

Insurance really doesn't go by the expectations most people seem to have. EVs for example tend to be much more expensive than gas cars, I suspect because of expensive repairs and how easily they get totalled. I paid more to insure the 2015 Fiat 500e that I leased than I do for the same coverage for my 2016 M4.

Insurance on my F82 M4 is about the same as my Macan Turbo. A little bit higher, but not that much.

Good Points, Definitely Garaged, secondary/pleasure vehicle so I don’t anticipate a lot of annual mileage, good driving history record. Thanks for the input!

I'm at double that with the m4 with Allstate lol.

No tickets. Nowhere near your age though so that's probably it. Also in NY if that makes a difference.

Yeah, same here, my 10 year Camry - 3 accidents - $750 (198k miles) cost more than my F83 $625 (12k miles) car insurance for six months.

The age is a huge factor and what safety feature the car has as well ( accident avoidance, lane assistance, multiple airbags, etc.

not true, my 2015 Toyota Prius Persona (130k miles) is about $400 even six month with full coverage.

they also look at how much power and car replacement part as well as which car are being paid out more base on accidents people are having.

I think for the Camrys, Accords and other popular cars theft is a big factor. Especially older models as they are more frequently stolen. That might be the reason you see high rates for those less expensive vehicles. Theft rate is a huge factor, especially in Seattle where auto theft is a huge issue and the perpetrators make a ton of money parting out the cars which make them highly unlikely to be recovered.

25 yo living in Houston

Paying $1650/yr

1 ticket on my record and a not-at-fault collision

Edit: for reference I paid $1400 more to ensure my Ram 1500 I had previously, but I also had a significantly worse driving record back then

There's a big difference between hybrids and EVs there.
