Single pipe or equal length Midpipes
2015 F82 ///M4 DCT 44k miles
I have a Dinan Axel back exhaust with BM3 tune. I want to add Midpipes however I do not know what style to buy. Please coach me so I buy the best ones to mate up to my Dinan exhaust. I have no plans to go to stage 2. I had a quick 135i w/ a lot of the popular mods, I just do not want to go down that same road again. My burbles are set at 1/2 way. Thank you, b |

Watch some videos on YouTube my guy.
On the S55 those two mid pipes can give you totally different sounds and both will mate up to a Dinan muffler with ease.

Single sounds more s55 without the rasp, it's like a deep animalistic tone with very minimal rasp. Single is my favorite setup. equal length sounds like a totally different car, more like the old naturally aspirated inline 6's BMW used to put out. I'm a big fan of the single midpipe especially if it's on stock downpipe I'd never get the EL but just my opinion

Tbh they’re very different sounds fundamentally so it’s hard to compare. Single/unequal is a very deep, monotone sound whereas EL is more of traditional and high pitched. Given there aren’t a ton of ELs in the wild, I think the easiest way to compare is asking yourself do you fundamentally prefer the normal S55 sound or do you prefer the N55 sound

I have the AA single midpipe with the stock ZCP exhaust and it sounds great.
I remember reading/seeing somewhere that it's best to retain the midpipe resonator if you're doing an axle back exhaust. Otherwise I think you get drone and/or rasp. I think it was Tommy Garage.

Single sounds like doo doo.
Equal sounds awesome. Anyone liking the sound of a single midpipe enjoy your M sounding like a 90s Pontiac or Buick V6

Here's mine, I might add resonators to make the MPE exhaust sound a bit smoother:
