I picked up my "new to me" 2017 F15 X5 over the weekend from out of state, and the HUD definitely has a blurry, double image look to me. I'm concerned that the windshield had been replaced with potentially one that doesn't have the appropriate HUD glass?

Can anyone confirm whether or not this is the appropriate windshield for an F15 with HUD? Sorry for the glare (and few bug guts) and appreciate the assistance.

*Updated post for clearer picture of windshield and picture of HUD.

I'm not sure of the BMW part number since the windshield has already been installed prior to my purchase.

Don't think it's the glass I'm
Afraid .. looks like the lens in your HUD is out of focus ..

Did you have a knock or bad bumps?

edit - Did some digging.... I now know more than I need to know about windshields....

Anyways, this website below explains windshield numbers. Your approval number 43R-000168 is wrong. It should be 43R-000578 as posted by the other two members and what my last two OEM (Guardian and now Carlex (they bought Guardian) matched.

The main give away is the MFG number. Your have a M45L1, where is the other two posters and my two windshields were both M45W50L1. I suspect the key difference is the W50, with presumably is for the HUD.

I'd talk to the dealer.

Carlex is an OEM for BMW, but looking at the picture of the double image on your HUD, there is no way you have a HUD compatible windshield. I was gonna suggest coming here that perhaps you had astigmatism or not to wear polarized glasses... but that's not the case.

Perhaps the out of state dealer you purchased from replaced the windshield prior to purchase and ordered the wrong one. Your HUD should not look like that.

Did you buy it from a bmw dealer or a B lot ?

I bet you when they saw the $1600 dollar price for the windshield they freaked and just threw in the cheaper non hud windshield that was half the cost!

This is my windshield I just replaced about 6 months ago.

No double image.

I'd say they put in the wrong glass.

This is hugely helpful - I think they definitely put in the wrong glass, I would agree. It was a BMW dealer but I'm not sure if they put the windshield on or if they got it that way when they took it in on lease turn-in. Regardless I'm going to call and make a fuss about it. I'm a little stuck because I'm out of state so may need to think about replacing the windshield because it's really irritating me.

It was a BMW dealer which is the irritating part about it. I'm really pissed and wish I would have said something when I thought it looked off.

Well if they replaced it that's something you can take up with bmw USA if the dealer won't budge.

It's not out of the question that they will replace it free of charge for you in case of their error.

And if it's a CPO then it's an open shut case as their all supposed to pass a full inspection.

And that's a safety issue as the double image can cause driver distraction and can lead to an accident.

I'd say you have a good chance to get it repaired correctly but you will need to act fast.

Completely agree - I reached out to the dealer this morning and told them it's frankly unacceptable coming from a BMW branded dealership. Either they knew about it and didn't disclose it, or their incompetent and don't fully understand the details regarding the vehicles they're selling.

The factory warranty expired at the end of June and it's technically not a CPO - so I'm hoping they're willing to work with me before having to reach out to BMW USA. Waiting to hear back from them.

There is a primary and secondary reflection, the HUD windshield lines them up, so you only see one image. The non hud, you se see both reflections off the inner and outer part f the glass

Update:

Huge thanks to the forum for the detective work, they just got done replacing my windshield and finally putting in the proper HUD version. I was outside of CPO but the dealer really didn't hesitate to replace it once I walked him through my expectations buying a vehicle from a BMW dealership and the safety concerns. Appreciate all the assistance with this one!

Glad to hear. Enjoy. Once you have a HUD on your DD, its hard to go back.

100% this. It was not even on my "wish" list, but the one I had that came with all my wish list just happened to have it on there. Now I will never go without.

I even bought all new non-polarized driving glasses so I could see it. LOL

It'll be on my next wish list for sure.

I am sorry, not sure what are you asking? F15 X5 35D was sold in North America 2013-2018. Also E70 had a diesel version.
