any issues with mismatching front/rear tires?

have to replace my rear tires soon and i have MPSS on all 4 right now but im considering PS4S's for the rears. if i keep the front on MPSS for now will there be any issues since the front and rear are different tire designs?

I had both sets and I can suggest having your MPSS in the rear and the PS4S for the front.
You will find the PS4S do not grip as well as the MPSS, but will be nicer handling in the front than the MPSS. PS4S grip a tad better in wet conditions, but on all 4's is meh Imo.

I had ps4s on the rear with pss in the front and had no problems. I think the ps4s actually grip better than the pss in my experience. I recently changed the fronts to ps4s too and it seems to grip better in corners without understeering. However, the steering feel is a bit worse and less responsive, though the benefit is that it is smoother over harsh bumps in the road.

I ran different front and rear tires at a couple of track days. No issues to report.

The difference between the two types is minimal and they're both from the same manufacturer. So as long as each is in pair on the same axle, you're good to go.

The tyres are quite close in performance so it will be fine. It's ideal to have all 4 matching but not a major issue if they are not an exact match. It's still better than having worn tyres on one end.

If they're drastically different, like one side is way wider or narrower, or you have semi slicks on one end so the grip levels are unmatched, then you mess with the cars balance and the handling changes, which generally is bad unless you know what you're doing.

I ran through this exact same scenario

I personally hate the MPSS and was pissed when my 2019 arrived with them - I had a 2015 that I had MP4S on and loved the grip

Replaced the Rears with MP4S in 2020 - then replaced the fronts with MP4S this year

I did notice the grip difference - as the MPSS fronts wore, they started sliding more around hard corners - now with the new MP4S that is not happening at all

You will be good

Same scenario here. The rears on my M4 wear faster than the fronts. After the PS4S was introduced I needed new rears so I went with PS4S while I still had PSS on the front. I ran like this for several months with no problems. Once the fronts needed replacing I replaced the PSS with PS4S.

As others have said, they're both Michelin, the PS4S is the successor to the PSS, so essentially the same, with the PS4S being better in wet traction.

I wouldn't do this with different manufacturers, different types of tires (summer tires with all-season), etc.
