Just as I was about to buy the M performance exhaust…. Im not sure what happens here since the MPE isn't exactly aftermarket..

Looks like 60 decibals will be the limit.

It's original BMW equipment and could be ordered as such from factory

60 db?!? That better be measured from a long ways off or be an idle measurement. California's limit that is known to get people tickets even with stock exhausts is 95dB. 60dB is typically described as "normal conversation" volumes.

The douches running around with straight pipes screw it up for the rest of us. This is why we can't have nice things.

Looking into it deeper you're right. The 60db limit is too low. Can't find factual info on the actual limit.

Not really worried. I doubt there will be any enforcement (in NYC itself) if you don't drive like an asshat on the daily, or run one of those obnoxious 18 year old popcorn everyone look at me tunes.

Also this is when the valve controller comes in handy. What exhaust?

It's those damn gu|\|shot tunes and ridiculous burble tunes that completely ruined it. Now that tweedle dee has enacted this, I'm sure tweedle dumb (read: California) will be right behind them

They should start with banning Harleys first.

Facts. I'm catless, AA mid, and Remus muffler. Needless to say it's loud. But, valves closed it's much quieter than a completely stock setup. 🤷

Yeah I don't get this. These bikes are way louder and more annoying than car mufflers.

I hope you are right. I have just AA midpipe and with valves closed it's very quiet.

Funny thing is I haven't tinted my F80 since rules change but yet it seems like 1 in 5 cars I see with NY plates are tinted :

How about the douches running around in Harleys? Those POSs are louder stock than most modified cars. They make noise for the sake of making noise.

Part of the rationale is that loud exhausts "affects your sense of wellbeing and the wellbeing of your family." What the actual hell is going on over there lol

Must be some really weak spirited people for their "wellbeing" to be threatened by a muffler delete :

**Apparently, it does apply to motorcycles as well

More unclear NY legislation. Is this the NYC/5 boroughs, or the entire state? No way to enforce all the noise in NYC, there's too many people. Seems like this law is for the asshats with worst kind of burble tune.

Exactly. Will be enforced for about 4 months. Then it will all depend on how bad a day each cop is having.

Another tool for revenue generation!

Is there not more pressing issues like Education, Crime, Homelessness all deeply affecting NY?! Ah but can’t make $$$ fining a homeless person 😤

No wonder everyone is moving down south or to Texas.

Not a revenue source.

This is about electeds proposing "quality of life" legislation to get in office. Car people are easy targets like real estate developers (unfortunately I'm both, but the good kind).

Near term, I wouldn't worry unless your tint is dark, ride slammed, tires stretched, camber / \, and bass deep.

Long term we're screwed. It's a slippery slope.
