X6/X5 35i towing

Hello,

I have a 2016 X6 Sdrive 35i (X-Line) that I would like to use as a tow vehicle for our new 23’ boat we just purchased. The boat including trailer weighs somewhere around 6200-6300 lbs.

As of right now the X6 does not have a trailer hitch. Considering our new boat is very expensive we wanted to get the absolute best trailer hitch option that can achieve towing the boat without any hazardous or mechanical problems. Do you have any recommendations on the best possible setup for this vehicle? I’ve seen on the forums a few large travel trailers being pulled around this weight so I know it’s very possible.

I’m assuming the hitch would need to be welded to the frame of the vehicle. Is this something that could be done in bmw service even if it’s ordered online aftermarket? Would I need to cut a portion of my rear bumper on the x6 to allow fitment (xline body)? - I’d like to keep the aesthetics of the vehicle as factory as possible but do not want to sacrifice in terms towing or safety. I’ve seen the bmw factory invisible hitch that pops out but Im not sure that would be the safest option in terms of pulling weight or if there was some type of mechanical issue while driving. I want to keep things as “error free” and sturdy as possible while towing.

Do you have any recommendations on the right towing hitch system for my needs?

-Also, the factory side mirrors do have a minimal horizontal view it seems. Is there some type of side mirror extension I can mount when towing that gives me a better view of trailer and side street lanes which I could detach when I’m not towing?

Your suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

Weight wise you might be on the edge, most of 6000 LB+ are pulled by diesel versions with x drive:

I never heard about anyone welding the hitch into the frame but there are plenty of options OEM,Curt,DrawTite,EcoHitch etc :
