What do you think: 2018 M4 base, 27k miles, manual - $52k
Hey Everyone -
Just moved down south from up north and plan to purchase my first M. I've found this 2018 M4 base with 27k miles for $52k. Cloth seats, 6-speed manual, 18's. Crankhub has already been replaced. I went and saw it yesterday and it's super clean with the exception of a couple cracks in the rear lights and some minor chips on the front bumper. I'm really leaning towards the manual, but if anyone has thoughts on the manual vs. dual clutch for a city daily driver I'd love to hear ether way. Also curious what people's thoughts are on the cloth seats - I actually like them a lot, but not sure how cloth is seen by the community vs. leather. I'm in love with it and feel like it's a great deal but am not in a major rush and want to make sure I'm making a good decision. Before I found this one I was more so looking in the 2015, +60k mile range for ~$40K (ie.https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used...ting=321012625)- but is the 2018 too good to pass up? It doesn't have all the options but super clean feels like a real drivers spec. Would really appreciate any/all thoughts you guys have. Thanks in advance. I think you should slow down a bit and go test-drive as many as you can, get more aquatinted with the DCT vs manual , get a more focused idea of what you want, you really need seat time in these cars.
First I would decide on exactly what trans DCT or Manual both are fantastic but you need to decide for yourself. also M3 or M4 Then color and options you have to have and can live without. Me I couldn't get one of these cars without leather and head up display. backup & side cams are nice to have as well. Stripper cars like that one can be harder to sell down the road and don't hold value quite as well as a loaded version. Its also likely been or is tuned since the CH has been done. Lots can be said about the question you've asked there's my quick 2 cents. |

usually i'd say just get the 2015 if you want a stripper since the only reason to upgrade to a 2018 is mainly the newer headlights.
but this is a very good price. if ppi and carfax checkout i'd say go for it |

When my 2015 was being fixed with the hub spun, there was a stock one getting covered under warranty at the same time. So not sure your thinking is only tuned cars spin?

Maybe I should of elaborated Yes "stock" cars can spin the crank hub those who genuinely have stock cars and have had it happen very unfortunate lucky if it happens under warranty. However I do believe it's unlikely someone gets the crank hub done if they NEVER modified or have the intention of modifying the car as it is very labor intensive and can cause issues on its own of all seals etc being replaced if not done correctly. That's just my opinion , If I'm in the market and I was as I purchased a 18 f80 last year and the car has the crank hub my thought is it's been tuned regards of what I'm told. Again that's just my opinion.

Sometimes repeated use of the kick-down feature causes it from what I have read but again I 100% agree it's a little ridiculous should just be a massive recall in my opinion , I'm sure I'll get flamed by forum members for that comment lol

OP, if there is a warranty then I think its a good deal. Do you plan to tune your car? If yes, then the warranty doesn't really matter. If no, then you'll want a good warranty considering that it probably was tuned (unlikely that a car that was kept stock would upgrade the crank hub because as a 2018 they would've had the BMW warranty for most of its use).
Regarding the cloth seats: I love them! I had a 2015 Stripper (cloth) and my current 2018 ZCP (leather). While I do like the look of the leather competition seats, I guarantee you that the cloth seats from the 2015 grip better, are more comfortable, and the heated seats get hotter (plus I miss the lumbar support). With respect to 6MT vs DCT: I honestly believe these F8X cars were created for DCT. And in my times as a passenger in DCT cars the engine/transmission seems seamless and perfectly mated to each other. On the other hand, the 6MT in the F8X (and the G8X) are still derived from the 1M car. AGAIN…. The 6MT is from the 1M so its clearly an afterthought. With that being said, I had the 6MT in my 2015 and I happily returned to the 6MT in 2018 as well because I prefer the involvement that it allows. For context, I only use Sport+ (no rev-matching) and I don't use DSC/MDM because I want as much connection to the car as is possible in this modern era. It'll never be like my E30 obviously or my NA Miata but I like what I like haha Hope that helps! Post pictures and a writeup for whichever car you do get. Feel free to message with additional questions if you have them.)

27k miles for $52k 2018 is definitely reasonable in this market. Options aren't a big deal and you can get better wheels off the forum marketplace (437m or 666m) for 1-2kish.
Test drive a 6mt and dct then make your decision. For me, I'd be happier with either, I currently have a dct and don't miss my old manual car but if I could trade in my f80 with the dct to experience a f80 manual I would. |

If the dct transmissions ever start failing, 6mt cars will double from wherever they are 😆
With that said, I think I want to add an F80 M3cs to my garage one day.. Quote:
