I read the manual and there is nothing that mentions this. Anyone care to explain why it moves and how it works?

Is your car a manual?,
is your transmission in reverse when you actiavte the key?
do your cars in the States have the tilt down side mirror for kurb parking?
Are talking about the side mirror or the internal mirror?
do you have the electronic anti-dazzle internal mirror?

Yes dimmer internal (I call it anti-dazzle), also our side mirrors here are anti dazzle (anti-glare).

Sounds like your side mirrors are just adjusting from your key sensors. Pretty sure the key memory retains the mirror settings. I think they are also locked in with the electronic memory seat settings also.

I will check my M3 but I know my X5 adjusts just about everything from my key, even the steering wheel comes back into position where I like it everytime I get in the X5.

The key remembers the last settings used when the door is opened (or unlocked, depending on how you have it configured). Sometimes, if the car is already unlocked for example, the key setting will not be invoked. If the seat is then adjusted after that point, that seat setting could become the new one stored to the key. This happens to me sometimes if my wife and I swap cars while out for some reason, but don't switch keys. I think its also happened with her car (which has CA) if the opposite key from who is driving happens to be used as the current key when the door is opened (such as if the passenger unlocks a door first). I agree its annoying, and it seems somewhat unpredictable also. Same thing for the climate control settings.

I've never heard of this happening before.

One question: are you talking about just the mirror itself moving, as it would when a driver adjusts them for his/her view? Or are you talking about the entire mirror and housing folding in/out, as they do to allow parking in tight spots?
