Scratch on door, aka people suck

Just came to vent. Found a 3 inch scratch on the rear passenger side door. No idea when it happened and just noticed tonight. Nothing on the dashcam and could have happened up to two weeks ago.

In the grand scheme of things it’s pretty benign but my ocd is going through the roof and I want this repaired asap.

Hate that shit. It never fails, you park a mile away from everyone and there is always that one asshat that parks next to you. People do suck.

Sucks. I’ve been thinking about PPF the entire car because of things like this.

Some people suck. Rich, poor, tall, short; doesn't matter. Some people just suck. Lack of character, integrity, honor. In the grand scheme of things, could be worse, at least it's not dented. I'd just touch it up with some paint, wipe off as much as you can while it's still wet but still covers the scratch. Than hit it with a little polish with a DA orbiter. I've had great results.

Thought about doing the touch up paint route but there’s a crease where the scratch is. Going to check with a shop to see what can be done. Perhaps PDR and touch up paint might be the way to go.

This crap happens all the time. I do my best to find an isolated spot in a parking lot and this idiot backs in right in front of me. At one point the back of his truck and that multi hitch was pointed straight at my car. There are literally 10-15 spots to the right in this picture. I put myself in reverse just in case. I thought he did it on purpose but then he got out and I could see his oblivious expression. Completely brain dead to his surroundings. I swear, the bigger the vehicle the dumber the driver. I hope your repair goes well.

I have MAJOR OCD and yes people suck. Sometimes I try to fix fully or significantly minimize and sometimes I just chalk it up to life battle scars since sometimes the "cure" might end up being worse than the problem.

I sometimes wonder if these people share the same objective. They realize an M car parked far away will be a car they can park near without fear of dumb damage.

So sorry! I feel your pain! I had a dingus put a huge dent in my drivers side rear door the second week I bought the car. Literally parked as far away as humanly possible, but people are inattentive or just outright mean and don't mind damaging their own property to hurt yours.

That sucks...sorry

In reference to everyone's comments, I think it is a combo of people oblivious to what it takes to own a nice car and what it truly cost to maintain and keep it looking pristine. BUT I also do agree there are those asshat people that just need to do something stupid maybe because they are bored??? My Dad always told me "bored people make bad choices".

I will continue to park my M4 way out in the parking lot away from others because the odds of dealing with one of these bored people is far less than parking amongst the rest and taking my chances...Just my 2 cents.

I don't think most people give any thought at all to where they park their car. A few people out there love their cars and try to park them in a way to minimize any mishaps. Unfortunately, all the precautions in the world sometimes don't prevent something happening.

I obsessed more about my 1996 Chevy Cavalier Z24 and my 1998 Acura Integra GSR than I do about my F82 and my E92 before that. I understand you all for sure, but I'm passed that stage. Don't get me wrong, I don't street park my car often, and I won't squeeze it in between 2 trucks or SUVs and won't park in the same vicinity of a mini-van, but I definitely don't worry about it the way I used to.

Is that a scratch or did someone intentionally key it? Looks like the latter, at least the right side.

Some ass opened their door on the crease in my panel between gas cap and door so prob the hardest place to reach for paintless dent repair. PPF helped a bit though.

Im going thru stuff now you wont believe because I got an M4 and my neighbors are all up in arms LOL. oh well!! I saw the error in my ways. I forgot to check with them first before i purchased my M4 lol

Someone keyed my mineral white M4 on drivers side from front of door to the taillight, all the way down to metal towards the back. Passenger side has about 20 keying scratches on the door.

After that I put up security cameras and busted my neighbor keying another car (I live in an apartment complex) because she feels those spots are for her. Police and property management haven't done a damn thing about it.

this is exactly why my civic sees 20k miles a year and my m3 and gt3 only see a few thousand. people are idiots. they dont care about cars. they would rather fit in a tight spot close to their destination so they don't have to walk. most people are overweight and most parking spaces are tight.

the one saving grace is that modern cars all have backup cams and park distance chimes to help people.

Lol.
By that logic, I've gotten dumber as well. I used to drive a s2k. 😆 I honestly don't see the need for those huge pick up trucks with nothing in the rear. Like seriously.

Am I the only one who thinks maybe this isn't a scratch? Edit: This isnt meant to come off as accusing, moreso that im curious that this might not have been caused by a careless person.

Scratches don't normally go that wide and then suddenly stop at the substrate (panel) that is similar color but duller.

This to me almost looks like bondo that chipped/flaked off from a previous repair or moisture getting underneath. The clearcoat around the images looks to be have been painted also.

Do you have any other photos of the damage and maybe of the panel itself?

No it's a nasty scratch. Something/someone made contact…..maybe delivery or garbage pickup?

Another example that just left me in disbelief. When I parked here there were no other vehicles within an entire section of the parking lot. I expected it would fill in, but this? I guess M cars are truck magnets.

Just paid $150 for PDR.

I was lucky though, the paint didn't get damaged.
