Recommendation for polarize front windshield

As the title reads, I'm looking for the best option to replace my front windshield. I would like to have a polarized version, and I'm not sure if BMW makes one or if there's a third-party recommendation. I know Safelite has one. I had it on my 5 series, and it didn't look horrible. I'm just wondering what others have gone with.

Not sure about polarized, but the PO said he put some kind of anti-UV windshield on my car. It is not darkened and looks more or less normal, but when I wear my polarized sun glasses it does make things look a bit odd. Blacks kinda look green and whites kinda look pink. But less UV damage is worth it. Not that my car sits in the sun much, lol.

Same with my car PO mentioned some kind of film but it doesn't seem like tint.

I had the Safelite solarized option installed.
It really works well as a heat barrier.
So much so, that the heat passing thru the side glass has become much more noticeable.
Now I need to have the side glass addressed to even things out.

Has a purple tint that bugged me for about 7 minutes…

European BMW offered this on the E9x.

This is called Climate Comfort windshield by BMW. Vehicle order for climate comfort is S358A.

Safelite does also offer a Saint Gobain (OEM) Solarized windshield as well. Davisca455 got an aftermarket brand but still just as effective.

-Purple hue is a high UV rejection film in the windshield.
-I dig the purple lol
-It can block some frequencies from transferring; in our area our toll transponders will not work unless in the rear view mirror mount area where the film is not present.
-It's heat rejection is on par to high end tint with high Total solar energy rejection (TSER).

Good luck! I regret not trying to order it when my windshield cracked.

I think my car might have this. Mine definitely has that purplish hue to it.

This is for the "aftermarket" one.
The Safelite website didn't show an option for the Saint Gobain version, so you'll likely need to make a phone call to specify that version.

My understanding of the polarization of light means that a truly polarized windshield will reduce the light by 50% ie the windshield will appear darker. To test for true polarization, get a pair of polarized sunglasses inside the car and rotate them through at least 180 degrees while looking through them. The windshield should appear totally black at some point in the rotation. If the windshield goes through a cycle of just lightening and darkening (without going black) then the polarization of the windshield is partial.

I think the term polarize is incorrectly mentioned here. It should be called "Solarized" or Climate Comfort, Climacoat etc.

There is a high UV absorbing/reflecting film in between the layers of glass. It is designed to reduce UV to passing through the windshield. It shouldn't drop light by 50%. Maybe a little, but not that significant.

Easiest way to define is to look at the markings on the lower corner of the windshield and look for the solarized logo.

Another check, the rear view mirror mount area does not have a film to allow for transponders to be mounted. You will be able to see a distinct film line where it ends.

This thread has some good pics of the European Climate Comfort version and that has the BMW logo on the window. I think that adds value to the car.

Though that Saint Gobain Swedish version is pretty dope too.

That little logo with the temp stick is Solar Coat!

If you visit realoem.com can you find the part numbers for coupe and sedan in the euro market catalog. They have S358A = yes

The part number I have for E90 is 51317203857 .

But I think Safelite actually carries Saint Gobain as well as the chinese stuff. You might need to call them to get the Saint Gobain though.

I agree. The idea of having a polarized windshield is interesting but I think that there would be many unintended negative consequences. I am basing my comments on my use of polarizers in photography.

I have heard that it can have a negative effect on GPS and radar detectors. I recently replaced my windshield and opted for the regular windshield. Food for thought.

It will not allow certain frequencies like radar dectectors or toll transponders. is In one of my earlier posts, I mentioned the rear view mount area is not covered to allow for these devices to get through.

Car GPS should not be affected as it is in the sharkfin.

I replaced my OEM windshield at Safelite with polarized glass last summer. The purple tint is noticeable and I think compliments the car and didn't require immediate tinting. I'll still tint it when I have the existing tint refreshed.

While my glass coverage covered it, the receipt was $767.20.

Thanks for that. That is about the same cost of a polarized Safelite version for my 5 series.

Safelite said it's not polarized. It's their solar protection that has a purple hue.

This pic is an OEM one. Not sure what you mean but guess solarized isn't for you.
