[solved, read below]Hello, I got a below minimum oil message this morning and have put in 2 quarts of oil but it still says it's low on oil. Is there a fix or a reason for this?
Solved: turns out that I was tuning on only 3 quarts of oil and the oil level warning came on too late. Hopefully no damage was done to the car. I was advised to check my oil level every week or 2 weeks.

What engine are we talking? +2 quarts and still low is a bit concerning. Check for any apparent leaks. Instances like this is where a dipstick is sorely missed. Only other way to be sure of the actual level and prove out a faulty level sensor would be to drain n refill the oil.

It's a 3.0 i-6 n55. The car is running the same and I had the oil pan leak fixed a couple months back so not sure what's wrong.

in this case I myself would verify the sensor by draining the oil and refilling with the proper amount, if the sensor still shows low then its a faulty sensor. If the low warning goes away and reappears down the road then you've either got a leak or its burning oil.

Sorry to hear you had to get the oil pan leak fixed. I know that's pricey. But how about your valve cover gasket? Everything good there?

Nope, haven't got that replace yet. However, I see no spots of oil under my car and there is also no smell of oil.

When is the last time you got your oil changed and how many miles on the N55?

That's not that bad. 4k top off. Mine has zero leaks and burns oil at 2800K a quart until i figured out what was happening. Most likely what happened is The oil low top up light came on late thus you been driving with low oil for much longer than the idrive message appeared. It has happened to me before as-well. What happens is when you measure oil on idrive before 1 quart low it forgets to display it on time and comes up when it much lower. I put in 1 quart than remeasured and it was still low. My culprit to burning oil that quick was actually the oil drain plug gasket was missing/worn. I have a retapped drain plug bolt 17MM M14-1.5 Acura bolt and the techs were not using the BMW gasket since it was different size and never told me this. One day Take5 oil shop actually showed me this issue and put on a universal gasket it finally resolved my oil loss. I would suggest have the car to oil shop with new oil and filter and have them put a new gasket on drain plug. Even with the oil drain plug leaking i never had any oil on the ground and most likely it was leaking while driving. Even if you have a valve cover leak there won't be any oil on ground as under tray covers it.

Just to verify (because I've seen it happen before)...did you pour oil into the oil fill pipe that had a cap with an old style oil can icon on it, right?

What level is the oil when you run the oil level check?
