Comfort Access Antenna location

Can anyone tell me exactly where the antennas are?

Since I've tinted my car my ca doesn't work so well on the drivers side. I've had bmw look at it and they already replaced the door handle but it did not resolve my issue.

I have huber optik so i'm just want to look at the antenna to see if it was damage or not during the installation of the tint. So if anyone can tell me where it is, or how to get to them it'll be greatly appreciated.

I doubt tinting would do that. I have tinting and it's only 50% because of the legal limit in my state but I don't think that would cause the CA in your case to fail. Did it work fine prior to the tint?

I've heard of this issue from others even with ceramic films like yours. It appears there are two antennas -- one in the middle of the dash (#3) and one in the rear bumper (#2). My remote trunk release is not working, so I think maybe my rear antenna is not working.

CA Antennas

For the E90, there is an antenna in the rear seat console, just behind where the ashtray is mounted. I found it when I installed the additional 12V sockets. It may be relatively new, as none of the installations for the 12v sockets had mentioned it being there.

One option might be to find a way to extend the wiring to the antenna and relocate to another location?

You may also find the attachment helpful; its a BMW document detailing the operation and location of CA components.

It's your tint. I have an e90 M3 with Huper Optik 30 ceramic. I noticed an immediate decrease in CA performance when my tint was installed.

My M6 comfort access has NEVER worked correctly. They keep telling me the same thing."It's the tint" I put the windows down, put the top down and it it doesn't work. Trunk drives me crazy. Over the last month or so it's gotten worse. I'm making another appointment this week for this issue. This will be the fourth time they will attempt to correct. They have changed key fobs, antennas etc. They also told me store front alarms will also interfere with comfort access

Maybe things have changed, but on my 2006 E90, there is a CA antenna in the rear window, and this is why metallic tint affects CA. CA for me has been nothing short of terrific, and I'm going on 3 years with my car. I have ceramic tint.

Here's an old post from e90post:

My remote trunk release is not working, but otherwise it has worked well for me (no tint). I'm taking it in Thursday to see if they can fix it.

Good point...exactly how is the trunk CA supposed to work? I had thought it was supposed to let you walk up (with the CA fob in your pocket of course) and engage the trunk opening button and it would open? Mine won't do this either and many times even if I manually open the car doors with the Fob the trunk still won't open until I use the trunk button on the key Fob. I read the OM a ways back and don't recall seeing anything specific about the CA trunk access features......

I have 20% tint and have not had any issues with CA. Guess it just depends on the type of tint.

My 40% ceramic tint seems to play a part in it, but so does my cell phone, wallet, heavy coat. If my cell phone is in my front pocket, my CA wont work. If I hold the phone (iphone 3g) behind my back, my CA will work. If my wallet is in my front pocket, and my key is behind the wallet in the same pocket, my CA wont work. Remove the wallet and it works again. It seems that the antenna is very sensitive, and the signal strength isn't the strongest to begin with so pretty much anything beside a thing piece of cloth seems to disturb the signal.

I've owned two 3ers and the trunk works best when you are about 2+ feet away from the bumper.

I think it may be the tint. If the tint has mettalic in it or something it can interfere with CA and also SAT radio and other functions. Work around I've read and been told is to use high grade, high quality ceramic tint on your car. I have Pinnacle F1 ceramic tint and have had no issues at all. 35% all around except the front.

Good luck..

The OP said he has Huber Optik, which I believe is high quality ceramic?

Great to hear! I haven't had time to take my car in. In my case with antenna in center console, all windows down and top down C A should work. I will let them work it again, and if it's not resolved I'll try removing the tint. Thanks for the info.
