S55 Motor Without Turbos
Hey folks. I have some questions about the S55 motor sans turbos. Obviously, I know that the S55 is derived from the N55 and so forth but my real interest:
Is the S55 without turbos essentially a E9X 328i N52B30? Or is it more comparable to the E36 S50B30? Or perhaps some other BMW inline-6 that I haven’t considered? Curious to know but my search of the forum didn’t bring anything up that clarified matters. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with info.

are we talking about design and construction, or are we talking power/performance comparison?
Fun fact: Ive been running a 10psi E40 tune recently and it is so much fun. Power/Torque gauges read 375hp and Im having a blast driving around and flooring it everywhere and only gets wheel spin in 1st gear lol |

I mean from a power/performance standpoint. The N52 is 268 bhp at 6,650rpm and 232 lb-ft at 2,750rpm. Meanwhile the S50B30 is 286hp at 7,000rpm and 236 lb-ft at 3,600rpm. My thinking is it’s more like the S50 in light of the bore (86mm), stroke (85.8mm), and compression (10.8:1) being relatively close to the S55 specs.
