I Need some advice

2015 M3 47k price 48miles
Mineral Grey less than desirable packages

2017 M3 52k Price 36k miles
All packages I desire except competition package.

If I buy the 2015 for 48k the extra money will be used on crankhub and upgrading charge pipes and J pipe.

If I buy the 2017 for 52k then I’d wait a few months to get the crank hub and everything else done. In the back of my mind I have this fear of buying the 2017 and with my luck spinning the crank hub in a few months.

Is the spun crank hub as common as the forums would like us to believe or is it much less but blown out of proportion by manufacturers and shops?

Just from your comment about the less desirable packages on the '15 I would say go for the 2017.
Lots of F8X cars still going strong with more miles and no updated crank hub but I understand the piece of mind.

Completely blown out of proportion by vendors and shops… You're at stock power.

At that mileage if the stock hub was gonna spin it would have long ago. Get your baby, the newer one you want. If you put a crank bolt capture plate over your stock hub that'll buy you enough protection for Stage 1 or 2, and even E30 fuel.

To do full E85 and more upgrades then you'd want a hub fix and the CBC over top.

Get the 2017...it's worth the extra money (although I'd negotiate that) and the telecomm features still work. My 2015 can't be upgraded to 4G communications for a reasonable sum, and there are other worthwhile feature upgrades in the 2017 model year.

Get the 2017. You can always get the most of the desired comp options added (seats might be tough to come by) but black badges, grilles, fender inserts can be added.

Newer car and lower miles is always the best choice if it fits your budget.

I've had 2 F80's, both tracked, both driven HARD on the track. I've never spun a crank hub. Granted, I kept the power stock and I don't do launches from a dig often. Only in autocross did I do hard launches.

Are you planning on tuning/adding boost? If not you don't need to do any of that. The crank hub is fine for stock power. Very overblown issue that affects like 1% of cars. Likewise the stock charge pipes and j pipe are completely adequate for stock power.

I say this as a 5 year owner of a stock 2015.

If you want Comp, don't buy a car without it. Wait for a 2017 & 2018 to come around that has the options you want. Plus the longer you wait the better prices will be.

I’m planning to go FBO as I already have a bm3 license I’m transferring from my 340. Honestly the only package that’s missing that I’d really like to have is the executive package

That is a very important package IMO. Once you live with a HUD, it's hard to go back.
