Battery Charger

Can we use normal battery chargers CTEK for example or is something else needed to charge the main battery ? Is the 48v auxiliary charged when the main battery is charged ? Asking because lithium ion charges differently. Thanx

I'm not sure here, but in every other car there is classic 12v starter battery and for this only battery you have posts under the hood.

Only car that I know that will charge its 12v battery from battery pack is a tesla, but it is fully electric ofc.

Ditto above…if your car has an AGM 12v main battery and your CTEK identifies as being able to charge an AGM battery, then as probably stated in your owners manual…you can hook your CTEK up to the pos/neg jump start terminals in the engine bay.

If there are other requirements (especially if you also have the 48v battery, too), I’m sure your owners manual will detail what to do. BTW, there’s also an owners manual built into iDrive which has multiple ways to search for information. If you use the keyword search in the iDrive owners manual…type BATTERY in the search field and see the selections you have which should reveal info about battery charging.

Example of the iDrive7 embedded owners manual:

Thanks. I did look at the owners manual. It says squat about what kind of charger to use, and mentions it is a mild bybrid with a 48v battery in addition to the 12v system. It doesn 't say whether the main battery is AGM or lithium, and there are chargers out there including the "BMW Advanced" with different settings for AGM and Lithium. So the owners manual is vague at best.
