Did I make a mistake getting AA Single Midpipe?
Did I make a mistake getting AA Single Midpipe? My goal was to get better sound output. Specifically, I'd love a less raspy (less fart can-ish) and more deep tone while also making the car louder of course. From some research a few months ago, I went with an AA single midpipe installation, however I feel like I haven't really gotten the tone I wanted out of the car
Did I make a mistake not going with the equal length midpipe? What else should I do here? All other parts are stock as of now, but I am running the GTS tune + stage1 BM3 Last edited by yami sukehiro; 04-17-2023 at 11:38 AM.. |

When I put a single midpipe on my tuned F80 with MPE, there was zero difference in anything. The car sounded exactly the same, sound, seat of the pants speed, etc.
Worst mod ever imho. |

I had both on my m2c. The single only amplified the original sound of the s55 only making it louder and deeper with a more aggressive tone essentially that died out later in the rev range. The equal length changed the sound completely shifting the majority of the sound to the top end while changing the actual tone of the sound completely, giving it some more of a NA sound. I would say if your unhappy make the switch.

I personally love the EL midpipe on my f80. Really does change the tone completely and is much louder. Slightly raspy but i’m not complaining.

Slightly MORE raspy? I thought the EL was supposed to even out the sound and get rid of the rasp or at least lessen it?

I got the MAD single midpipe which is probably the same thing. I personally love it, it's louder, deeper and more aggressive vs the stock setup. I don't think it sounds farty at all, especially on upshift, it sounds amazing. Maybe you need to pair it with a dp to really bring out the sound even more? Thicwhip did the same thing on his GTS, he said EL with ARM Catless and Dinan rear wasn't what he wanted, then he switched to single and said the sound is much better. I'm getting a catted dp installed this Friday so we will see how that turn out.

Go EL w/ resonated pipes and stock DPs. Screaming tone with no rasp whatsoever.

I have the AA single midpipe with the resonated connector pipes (just ahead of stock muffler). I originally had the non-resonated pipes and it was way too loud and raucous, but adding the resonated pipes made it more "civilized". Still better than stock, eliminating the secondary catalysts.

We don't make mistakes, just happy accidents
Modding the car is an experiment, sometimes you gotta try a few different parts. I went through 2 different suspension setups and 3 different exhaust setups before I found the one I liked the most. |

My car definitely got a step louder with the AA single non-resonated midpipe on my zcp. For the record my exhaust is completely stock minus the single midpipe, stock cats and all. I thought it was well worth doing even after 8 months or so of having it on the car, still happy with the results. I do wish it was a touch louder still but not much.
I didn't notice any change in tone at all but never thought the car sounded raspy before or after the single mid. To my ears after the single mid was put on efficiency mode now sounded like sport mode originally did sound and sport mode was another step louder. Burbles were noticeably louder as well. No rasp whatsoever before or after, just like 25% to a 1/3 louder was all I got. To sum it up I think mine sounds great and would do it again without a second thought. |

I had single midpipe with catless downpipe and it sounded obnoxiously loud with valves open. I think both the single and catless downpipe did not do anything to change the sound of the S55 engine but just made it louder. Then I had EL midpipe with catless downpipes and it sounded terrible/weird/different. At first I didn't like the EL because it sounded like NA and not turbo like. But then overtime it grew on me. So I'm now on EL and stock downpipes and it sounds soo good at high rpms, low rpm sounds terrible. Definitely a proper setup to enjoy some curvy mountain roads with and let the EL scream at high rpms.

Has anyone tried the ARM resonated mid? Since I have the ARM resonated DP's, I'm thinking of adding their resonated mid pipe. Feedback is greatly appreciated

Hard to make this car sound good, unfortunately. One of its few flaws IMO.

Here's the truth about the equal length that virtually nobody talks about after they buy it because they don't want to feel regret or shame for spending money on it:
on the low rpm end, you will get more rasp, especially in higher gears at low rpms. You better'd have the flaps enabled or the rasp will be extreme. You will still hear disgusting rasp with the flaps, it will reduce it a bit only. Oh, and for cold starts? Your car will flat out sound like a straight piped civic. EK generation with teriyaki boys music. on the high rpm end, it will eliminate the terrible stock rasp. |
