IDrive Knob Rattle

Does anyone know of the iDrive knob is supposed to rattle like this? It's done it for as long as I've owned the car, but it's gotten more frequent recently.

I’d say definitely not. That idrive controller also appears to have been modified with a different knob…

Yeah I added the top cover to add more weight and it helped reduce the rattle a lot.

Looks like I may need to find a replacement knob...

I got the same one and mine hasn't done that the last 2 years. Can try to get a new one for cheap unless it's not the cover and the actual drive part.

No it's not the cover. The cover is firmly attached. The rattle is coming from inside the controller unit. When I push the knob to the side and shake it there is no rattle. When the knob is in 'neutral' position it rattles even when I hold the knob (like in the video).

I've tried sticking some sound proofing mat on the area around the knob, let's see if that helps.
