Exclamation F80 M3 CS Crankshaft Sensor has "grease" on it???

Hello everyone,

To keep long story short, my car was fine one day, the next day I try to start it, I get drive train malfunction but the car runs in LIMP mode. I looked up the codes in ISTA and got Crankshaft sensor code for no signal. Sorry I forgot to record the error code for it...

Anyway drove the car to the dealer and after racking up as many "research" hours they could they said finally its the sensor not working. Today they finally reach out to me saying they pulled out the sensor and it has "grease" on it.

This issue seems very rare as I've been googling crankshaft sensor issues for F80 and nothing comes up except for one thread and no one replied to the poor guy. Regardless AFAIK CKS are supposed to be dry no?

Anyone else has this problem yet or is my F80 the the first?

Car is a F80 M3 CS with 38K miles on the clock and DCT. No tune just down pipes.

Welp seems like same fate for my post no replies.

Update: I'll be getting my car back Monday running normal again. It was just the Crankshaft sensor gone bad. They did not find any engine seal leaks so not sure where the grease came on it.

However if anyone encounters a similar issue, don't start doubting the crank hub, though I feel like the amount of money I paid for this I could have gotten my hub done

How long have you owned the CS? Any prior engine mods or work by previous owner? Good news that it was fixed and your back on the road.

I've owned it almost 6 months now, put around 8k miles on it, drove it across country. Previous owner had downpipes and MHD stage 2 on it that I flashed back to stock but kept the downpipes. No other prior work.
