Looking into buying a f15 x5

Good morning everyone, long time Lexus owner looking at buying a 2016-2018 X5 xdrive35i. A friend has one and says it's been very good to him. I love how they look but have always been skeptical about bmw reliability. Anything to look out for? Mileage to stay under? Things to look for? Tia.

Owning a 2016 xDrive 35i with a N55 and 116k miles and had 3 other N55 cars it’s a solid motor. Only typical Valve cover leaks and stuff of that nature to look at. I’d personally stay under 110k miles, Really there are no issues that are major regarding the N55, But 2015+ are EWG (Electronic Wastegauge) And it’s been shown to be more reliable then PWG N55’s.

Have you test driven one yet? I test drove the 35i when I was looking and wasn’t really impressed. It rode nicely, but…I dunno, left me with more of a “driving appliance” feel. Though I know it can be tuned to make some good power.

Anyway, I made the mistake of test driving a 50i…and that’s what I ended up getting. Love it and have been getting 23mpg on my mixed commute and 24.5-25.5mpg highway going 75-80mph.

Things to look for…

Valve cover gasket leaks
Oil pan leaks (especially lower oil pan in 50i)
Oil filter housing leak (35i)
Service history

Things I’d recommend once you buy

Front/rear diff fluid change
Transmission pan/filter and fluid change
Transfer case fluid change and calibration

All really easy to do on your own as long as you have something like a Foxwell NT530 for the transmission fill procedure and transfer case calibration

Interestingly Ive ran two different n63tu one 550 and f15 x5 50i in my stage 1 X5 35i and both times I've beaten them. The 50i driver are always surprised what happened. The other X5 even had the same exterior spec including color. Lol

Yep, I know they can make some big power. Stock, though, the 50i has an awesome “let’s GOOOOOO!” feel to it and sounds awesome.

However, if you give in to the “Let’s GOOOO!!!” feeling the aforementioned mileage will DRASTICALLY decrease lol
