UUC short shifter - not happy, what next?
I ordered the UUC short shifter and double shear selector rod instead of the Autosolutions SSK by mistake. Regardless I find that compared to my Z4M stock shifter (which is just perfect) the throws are TOO short and it requires way too much effort to move into gear.
Thinking of putting back the original stock selector rod and maybe the F series M ZHP weighted shift knob everyone is talking about. I remember not liking the stock shifter’s height and slightly longer throws but I was also really annoyed by the vague clutch which I fixed by removing the spring. Maybe with the clutch addressed I’ll be happy with this knob or stock again? Thoughts or suggestions are welcome. |

I’ve had both the UUC and Autosolutions SSK but when I changed to AS I also replaced all the bushings and the bushings with the uuc were quite worn- so it wasn’t a perfect comparison. Still, it’s a night and day difference and one of the better mods I’ve done on the platform. Ron will build it to your exact preferences and driving style and you just don’t get custom work like that anymore. You can probably tell him exactly what you’re looking for and what you don’t want out of the mod and he’ll deliver a product you will be thrilled with. I installed a ssk on my 996 and recently drove a ‘19 gts with a ssk. They both were/are a little too short and I do have trouble at times hitting the wrong gear so I know what you mean and my AS kit as built is not like that at all.
Mine: 20% reduction in throw, 10mm height increase (for ZHP knob) and 80A bushing I had the weighted zhp knob and it didn’t overcome the notchiness of 1 to 2 and 3 to 2 and 2 to 1. I recently upgraded to the heavier Turner knob and it made a huge difference. |
