Cop: Is your sport mode on?

Just got window checked by a motor officer coming down Mulholland.
I was in the passenger seat, my buddy was driving.

Cop: Do you have your sport mode on?
Friend in Drivers seat: I don't know, it's not my car.
Cop: You know I can write you a ticket for that?

Granted we were coming down a hill and my high performance breaks were also singing...

But can a cop write a ticket to a driver who is in Sport mode?

Officer let you off easy. I've heard of folks getting 30 days for daring to enable Sport mode.

This guy got state refed because of using "track mode" on the street.

Doubtful - no way to tell what mode the car is in, other than maybe exhaust burbles. Not sure what the violation would be unless there's something in the CA vehicle laws having to do with emissions (a small amount of extra fuel is used to create the burbles). Here in NC, we don't have any of that kind of nonsense.

Assuming stock, emissions shouldn’t change to the level where it would surpass overall limits so I highly doubt that. Noise db shouldn’t exceed CA limits either because that is part of being 50 state compliant, or each state would need to have owners signs something at the purchase or registration point acknowledging (I would think).

I think to be fair the police have been under a lot of pressure to crack down on these sideshows and street takeovers as well as those late night brap, brap, brap noises so more than likely a scare tactic?

Joking, no.
Flexing, yes.

I can understand in some vehicles having a "track" mode that isn't legal for the street. But I've never heard of an /M car that was legally required to run in COMFORT.

I'm guessing he was behind us when my buddy lifted and he got a loud crack of blowoff while sitting on his motorcycle. But still, it ain't illegal, I don't think.

He just wanted to leave an impression on you.

I am sure they hear that excuse a lot, “No mods officer, the car was just in sport mode. Please don’t give me a modified exhaust ticket, I promise to keep it in comfort.”

Yes it’s a new thing in CA; a leo can write you up for having sport/track mode ON. So don’t admit to having those modes ON!

Like firearms, Democrats are going after modified vehicles.

I don’t know how that’s a thing. It’s a factory function on a car that is legally allowed to be on public roads. There is no VC that states so to my knowledge.

The things that comes to mind is possibly exceedingnoise db threshold or violation of bypassing the muffler. Not saying I agree with it, but I’m sure the courts would do as they please.

Unfortunately I don’t think the argument of “factory OEM function” would do much good in this commie state.

But it’s not modified. It’s selecting a factory setting that has passed California regulations for sale and use on public roads.

California passed a law that an exhaust cannot be over 95 decibels, the f8x cars have been measured around 97 with the valves open. So technically yes it is illegal in California, I don't post much but I really dislike that state. There are an insane amount of videos of stock cars getting tickets for their exhaust on YouTube.

I don't think this has anything to do with any political party affiliation, and I resent the reference. THIS Democrat is a Vietnam veteran and former reserve LEO. So let's keep politics out of the discussion, please, and thank you.

97 must be WOT. If that is what OP’s friend was doing driving down a hill, there would likely be grounds for a ticket other than noise. Speeding, reckless driving, etc.

Cop was almost certainly just fucking with OP and friend or California is even more amusing than I thought.

Truth of the matter, it very well is in CA. Otherwise, OP and his buddy wouldn’t have been lit up and hassled in the first place.

Btw how great of you to flex mil/leo status. The respected service members show rank through their character & work, at least those whom I work with. Thank you.

No "flexing" or rank involved, just making a statement of fact: keep politics out of this forum.
