Hey all, I have an 2018 F83 M4 Competition.
I was using a foam cannon today and saw water coming in from the driver side.

Can anybody tell me how I’d get this fixed? Please look at the pics.

Added a few extra pics with her looking good too.

Please let me know if anybody has come across this. Looks like a clip was broken on the driver side hard top.

Honestly, with how complex these hardtops are I would suggest going to the dealer.

I have yet to find an indy shop that knows how to work on the hardtops.

Check this thread out. My fix was to remove the clip and then tape it down. It’s worked great for me.

Yeah, I made an appointment with the dealer. The only issue is they make me buy the complete set. I’m just having them do the install and paint…having them replace all the clips. It was ~400 for the set and another 400 to have it painted and installed. I’m just doing that and having them do touch-up, then getting Paint Protective Film put on when it leaves the dealer.

I’ll have some extras is anyone needs them.

I went through this exact procedure, and my experience was the same as yours: you have to buy and paint the entire set, even if you only need one piece. In my case, one of the pieces broke off. So now I have several extra pieces in case this happens again, in which case I will only have to pay for the painting. For that reason you may want to retain the extra pieces. Just a thought.

So just an update.

I ended up taking my car to the BMW dealer…let’s just say it was the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with a BMW dealer.

I left the car there and asked them to fix it.

The next day, I went to the dealer to pick it up, they left the top all scratched up then argued with me that it came in that way. They also argued with me that the trim pieces didn’t look creased.

They ended up refunding my money and said they couldn’t do the work to my expectations.

Now I’m back to square 1. lol

Sorry to hear about your experience. It’s difficult to tell from the pictures you posted but it looks like the longer piece was just not installed correctly. I remember my dealer telling me that there is a pretty specific way those trim pieces must be installed because of the little springs and plastic tabs.

Seems like a really common issue, same deal with mine. I did the same scrotch tape fix suggested by therealkenc (thanks btw!) and it worked for now. Will order the primered kit and tabs, and I believe a body shop should be able to get it painted and installed no problem. Will do this along with paint correction and touch-ups that I need done.
