Anyone running a dedicated winter setup?

Curious if anyone has done anything yet. Just starting to think about it, here

No but I swapped my performance summer tires for Continental DWS06 Plus all-seasons and very happy with them. Even though I’m in UT it doesn’t snow enough in the Salt Lake valley to justify full winters IMO and I rarely venture up the mountains.

i'm going to buy some new rims and tire as it is standard to change here (switzerland).

i'm going for 20" and michelin tires, the rim will not be BMW original, they cost like 1/4 more...

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm running the 21" staggered setup at delivery, and like the look, but am open to 20s as well.

Seems like if sticking with OEM 21" wheels, only pure winter option is Pirelli Winters. Don't see DWS as option for 20s or 21s, though.. love that tire. Prob need to switch up wheel sizing a bit.

I have the same setup and decided to go for the 21s to maintain the same look year round. These are the 2 options available in Canada, and I think they also have 20s version available too.

I ended up going with 265/40/21 and 295/35/21 on the Continental DWS06 Plus all-season tires and mounted them on the factory 21” wheels. Works perfectly, no rubbing at all. Even took it to my local dealer to get their "blessing" on the non-standard tire sizes and they said it's all good.

Yeah looks like I can def get my hands on the 909M setup here in US - maybe 5350 USD all in at the dealer I deal with.

I've been running dedicated winter setups and swapping here in my garage for years, but something I gave small consideration to was just swapping the rubber on and off one set of wheels every fall/spring. I'm not too comfortable going that route, and the cost savings is nominal, big picture, not to mention hassle of taking tires to/fro dealer to swap 2x a year

Another setup I see out there is the 911M but don't see that avail here in US

I have been considering a winter set for the G70, but waiting to see if I end up with another work car in the next couple of weeks first, which I’ll happily use as my winter / snow beater …. Or my Tundra….. but for $5350 with taxes included, I’d be in for a set of 909Ms with winters and TPMS sensors and center caps.

What tires are they proposing to pair the set with for that price? Mind sharing what dealer? I doubt I can get Circle down that low.

Ive heard the smaller the rim the better it is for winter as the sidewall is higher and will cut through snow better. Is 17” tire and rim package too small?

for my car i can't go below 20". i think it is best to ask some tire/rim professional what can be mounted - or get the BMW original.

for the EV's there is not much choice, not in rims and not in tires, this seems to be a problem (the EQS seems even worse from what i heard).

and yes, they are all expensive...

I have some doubts that 17" wheels will fit because of the size of the brakes. I am not familiar with PMC but TireRack, which is very reliable, only goes down to 19 for the 760.

Yeah so 5350 is basically 5k pre tax which is about 10.75% off msrp. They can’t quite get to full CCA levels of discount because the bundle is already discounted from piecing it together ourselves. Say 1725 for the p zero winter tires (tire rack price) that makes it 3275 for the rims plus caps plus sensors. Caps and sensors at CCA discount rate prob about 100 per wheel. So that makes the rims about 720 each. Good value if want 21s and ok with those rims.

I deal with a couple dealers out here lmk if you can’t get that price, maybe can help

I typically get my winter wheels/tires from TireRack.com. They usually have many more wheel and tire options and are also cheaper. However, they have not posted/certified any fitments for the i7 yet... (Sep/Oct is usually when they update their winter selections)

Also, this web site has good information for choosing tires/wheels based on their fitment specifications (including offsets): https://www.wheel-size.com/size/bmw/...70-xdrive--650

17" may look ridiculous on that big a vehicle - maybe not, but def try to see some real life pics before making the call.

Thanks. I'll go talk to the parts manager @ Circle this week and see whats the best he'll do for me on these, and I'll let you know. I may need your contact

I don't like running aftermarket wheels, that's just me ... so the tirerack options are out. I just need good cold weather performance. Will not be driving this car in the snow, unless I get stuck out somewhere and haven't watched the weather report and it "comes out of nowhere" lol.

I've been running dedicated winter sets of aftermarket wheels on all my BMW's and Porsche for many years and have been quite happy. The wheels/tires are typically about half the price, you will have a MUCH better selection to choose from, and they are delivered fully mounted/balanced/w/TPMS right to your home.

I'm not sure what you would have against aftermarket wheels, but to each his own... :-)

I don't really like ANY of the i7 wheels offered by BMW so I'm just ordering with the stock 21" wheels. I'll either replace the factory wheels as well, or maybe get them powder coated (while my winters are mounted). I did this with my M6 and the gloss black powder coat looked great on the white M6... (My i7 M70 will be black with the shadowline trim option)

My 706ix came with 21" summer tires.

I opted to procure a second set of OEM 21" Style 908 wheels and Pirelli P-Zero winter tires. 2000 miles driven to-date. I am seeing a 10% decrease in gas mpg but otherwise great, predictable, confidence-inspiring performance.

I needed the winter setup for a trip at Christmas to the mid-Atlantic. Will probably keep them mounted through mid-Feb or so here in Central Florida.

My dedicated winter setup is an x3, followed by getting south for the snow months. Seriously. I’d be interested in how a big heavy car like a g70 would do in snow.
