M4 Brakes Issue

Hi All,

In need of some advice as currently in a dispute with my BMW dealer in the UK about the issue with my brakes. The car is under extended warranty.

Here is the story

1) New discs and pad replaced 10/2021 @ 35k miles (Original set)

2) All discs & pads replaced under warranty due to all 4 warped 07/2022 @40k (no explanation why)

3) Returned 3 times to BMW due to squeaking noise from rear wheel when pulling away at low speed

4) BMW adjusted handbrake - still the same issue

5) BMW clean out brakes - Mechanic sends video showing him rotating the rear wheel and brakes making a huge amount of noise, agrees to cleaning them out 01/2023 @44k ish (6 months after new brakes)

6) BMW tell me the squeaking is now due to the the rear disc brakes being heavily corroded and scored and they're not covered due to wear and tear and they need replacing. Pads have 90% life left 10/2023 @48k

I am at a complete loss of what to do here. I have raised it with BMW customer service they say they can't overturn the decision of the dealer not to cover under warranty.

However I seem to have a car incapable of going more than 5k miles without needing new discs which is completely insane. The original discs and pads last over 35k with zero issues.

I am not a mechanic but it's common sense to assume:

1) The brake disc itself is defective or has a manufacturing issue and wears out prematurely

2) There is an issue with the vehicle that causes the brake disc to wear out prematurely

How would you proceed?

Sounds like you might have an issue with the caliper.

That’s what I said to the service manager. He said that’s not the case as the face of the disc would be shiny or something to that effect

You might want to cancel that extended warranty and go find a reputable shop lol. Sometimes...they don't know what they are talking about.

Yep agreed. I’m going to take it to an independent specialist for them to run a report on it.
