I don't know how it is down south in LA area but up north in the bay area I have been rocking no front plate on my vehicle for the last 10+ years. I even was recently pulled over in the M2 for speeding (got a warning) and no mention of my front plate being missing.

YMMV

I did that as well for years. However, a few years ago with my E92 M3 I got pulled over for no front plate.

It is definitely a risk and it depends on where you are / cop you get. I wouldn't be surprised if I got a ticket if I was driving up through Redding or something by some bored CHP.

It is still just a fix it ticket, which you can rectify with any number of front plate holders. After submitting evidence of correction you can just take it off again.

Please do not drill your bumper 🙏 if for some odd reason you get a ticket just buy a tow hook mount, pay the $25 fix it ticket, and take it back off

7+ years

Got a citation tacked on to a ticket for backing into a spot once, but that was about it. I wasn't even in the car. It was cheap.

No other issues.

I got carbonio no-drill plate mount, but the thumb nut gets loose really easily and the general build quality is a bit flimsy I ended up just putting the front plate in my trunk. The mount base is still there so I can put it back on quickly if I need to.

Drove for years (45 in all) in CA with no front plate. I even got pulled over for speeding once or twice with no mention made of the absence of a front plate.

But I avoided parking in say a courthouse parking lot which are patrolled by parking enforcement officers and I've read/heard will cite a car for no front plate.

And of course my experience is no guarantee you'll have the same luck.

Even though I never got pulled over for or when pulled over for something else was not given any static about no front plate I had the 2nd plate in the trunk and if necessary I could have put it on the dash -- I think this would have sufficed.

And I was prepared to if cited for no front plate to install a front plate in order to have the citation dismissed.

I’ve not had a front plate on a vehicle since 2002. Got a couple tickets in LA in college but no further issues. They are too ugly can’t do it.

I have this too but I haven't noticed any issues. And I prefer the centered position look with carbonio rather than the tow hook location off center.

One time I got a ticket (in my E92 M3) and the cop cut me a break and wrote me up for front plate (fix-it) instead of something a bit worse.

I ended up buying a front plate holder that screws into the front tow hook. I screwed the plate holder in. I put the plate on. I went to the police station. I cop spent 10 seconds to look at it. That was it.

Carbonio is what I have on my X5MC and that frame is solid...

I haven’t run a front plate on any of my cars since 2001. Only place I ever had a problem was in San Francisco. SFMTA will ticket your parked car for no front plate. The city literally think that this is more important than the drug epidemic and strong armed robberies that is happening. Place is a fuking joke. Sorry for rant.

I don't run a plate on anything, but....

If I need to run a front plate it will be one of these:

https://licenseplatewrap.com/

Legal in California and if there is a nice flat portion you stick it on.

Use purple loctite on the screw.

Probably the only option in this thread that actually won't work for a G87 M2. There is no flat portion to put it on

I guess you could put it on the side above the inlet vents

I live in CA. I don’t run a front plate and never will. I don’t give a $hit, ticket me, just like you do for everything else.

I don't run a front plate and my current excuse is there is no corresponding from plate to my digital rear.

I haven't been pulled over.

NJ is has a front license plate requirement too, so I use the Sto N Sho bracket. Pull a pin and the assembly comes off. No holes to be drilled.

You owe it to the car to absorb the costs and go plateless.
