scrolling through artists
is there any shortcuts to take when you're scrolling through the artists through the iPod in the car? I hate to have to scroll and scroll (and be distracted by having to lean over and turn the knob). THanks!

I changed the Genre to be the first letter of the Artist. Then you can start with Genre and scroll the letters then drill down to the artist in there etc... Works great!

Yeah, it surprises me that BMW didn't make use of the arrow buttons to scroll through the menu. The alphabetical playlists sound like a decent option, though.
BTW: I got the new Nano. Black, to match!

I have an old Gen3 iPod, and I use it as just a HDD (I copy folders to the drive, rather than using iTunes). Then I've created a folder for each letter of the alphabet, and in turn 5 grouping folders (0-e, f-j and so on). As you can really only scroll 3 to 4 items at a time with the dial, I am now only 1 or 2 scrolls to choose the group, click, and then one or two scrolls to get the dial, and I am there to any of my 150 artists.
This will of course work for any USB or HDDs as well.

In my 2007/8 120d with iDrive, spinning the iDrive controller with a flick scrolls through the list very quickly indeed.
When I do this the album names disappear and numbers appear in their place. When I stop I can see what I've scrolled to as the album names reappear. It is not ideal but it is much better than it used to be. I can scroll to my last album (number 945) in about 5 seconds. Regards, Paul Martin |
