Getting "1" or "D" at random in M-DCT

I have a question about M-DCT that may be stupid but I cannot find an answer.

When I shift from "P" or "R" to to go forward, sometimes I get "D" and sometimes I get "1". I don't think I am doing anything differently when I get "D" vs. "1".

I doesn't seem to matter whether I was in "D" or "1" when I shifted to "R" before shifting back. (i.e. I have gone from "D" to "R" and shift back got both "1" and "D". I have also gone from "1" to "R" and got both "1" and "D".)

Same thing happens when I shift from "P".

Am I doing something I don't know when I get "D" vs. "1"?

I have but did not find any references.

Sounds like you are bouncing between auto and sequential mode. You are probably pushing the lever to the right in a way that the computer thinks you are wanting to change modes.

When going from R or N, you do the following:

Push the selector to the right ONCE = sequential mode (manual shift)

Push the selector to the right once more (or twice from R or N) = Auto mode (D mode)

so if you are in sequential mode, you press the selector the right again and it will put you in auto mode. Push it to the right again and it will take you back to the sequential mode.

What I am running into is that sometimes when I shift from "D" to "R" and when I shift back I sometimes get "D" and sometimes get "1". Sameting happens when I go from "1" to "R" and back.

The confusing thing is that it is so random in when I would get "D" or "1".

I have tried parking on the side of the street and do this over and over again (going from "R" to "D" or "1"), making sure I do it the same way and still get "D" or "1" at random.

I don't mind push the selector to thr right one more time, just curious what I did unknowingly to cause this to happen.

I might be wrong (or misunderstood your concern), but it's not random selection. Based on previous mode setting (D or S), DCT puts back to either 1 or D.
