Would You Trade Your M3 For a...

My local dealership has a 2008 BMW M5 6MT blk/blk semi loaded on the lot they haven't been able to sell for a few months. Original asking price was 94k now lowered to 76k. Would you trade your M3 in for it? Paid almost 70k for my e92 M3 and am considering going for it. What would you do?

Why?

I prefer the M3 over the M5 as well...

Smaller, more nimble, and while the M5 is a damn fine car, I prefer the M3... (I need 4 doors though, so I prefer M3 sedans over M5 sedans!)

I had the previous gen M5. Thought it would be super due to the V8. Ended up not enjoying it at all. Great in a straight line but no fun in turns. Could really feel the weight of that V8 up front. To me the e9x M3 is the car I was hoping the e39 M5 was going to be. 400+ hp and handles great.

I have also driven a highly modified current gen M5. Very fast in a straight. Handles better than the old M5 but not as well as the e9x M3. IMO when you weigh the fact that it will not be as fun to drive in turns and the extra gas for V10, I'd pass.

6MT on the M5 is a disaster. You'll want the auto for that car.

not for 70k with the way the used car market is you could pick one up low to mid 50's at most. Here is one for 64k easily you could get 8-10k off.

SMG has most of the kinks worked out, find one. The 6mt was a carryover from the E39 M5 and has problems overheating. Check out M5 board to see what I mean. Nothing like going through all seven ratios in S6 mode.

Nah.

When i bought my E93, I looked hard at the M5 also. The dealers in my area had alot of inventory and deals were to be had. Starting off with 12K off for any of the 5 black on black M5s he had on the lot. Another dealer offered me 28K off an M6. All this was in November 08. Even before it got really bad for the auto industry.

Anyways, like everybody else wrote, i agree it is racecar fast, no doubt. But did not feel as nimble in the turns even compared to the E93.

Plus I came from an E39, and still believe that the E39 was the best 5-series body ever.

one more thing, the stories about 7~9 miles per the gallon are true. Have several friends that have M6s and M5s. Not pretty.

Granted, M-drivers aren't really concerned about gas mileage, but it is a pain to fill your gas tank every 2 days.

Another who looked long and hard at M5s before getting my E90. I drove both 6MT and SMG M5s and I agree with others, no way I would get manual in that car (I also came from an SMG E46 and actually liked it). Also, you will get screwed on trade. You won't get anywhere near an even trade ("low to mid 50s at most" is never going to happen).

Ill tell you ....... I just bought my E90 M3 not even a month ago. When your spending this much money you wanna get every pennys worth. I looked at all the M's... M3 M5 M6. I made a point that a 4 door would be perfect for my lifestyle. So the E92 and M6 were out. Now the hard part E90 M3 or M5.... Man both are awesome. I just felt with a smaller body of the 3.... Better Handling..... And 14MPG to 9MPG made my decision of the M3 Sedan a perfect choice. After owning it for the last few weeks I think I made the perfect choice specially since the new 5's due out soon ( I know the new M5 wount be comin out til after but still)

That my 2cents

STICK WITH THE M3!

I would only get it but if I could keep both. It would be great to have the power cruiser and the weekend track beast together.

But I have other cars, and don't really need 4 doors and too big of a car, so I wouldn't trade my car for it right now

Garage List
I would keep the E92 M3... The E60 is dated and will be replaced soon.
